I went to my doctor about a week or so ago because I had been feeling depressed and he reffered for counselling.

The day after I went I had a phone call asking me to go tomorrow for an assessment (the letter I got to confirm called it an iapt assesment).

What is this? Will it just be a questionnaire again?
Also I have to go to work afterwards so does anyone know roighky how long it will take (it doesn't really matter I'd just like to have an idea!)

Thanks

They should have either explained or called it something else. I apt is simply improving access to psychological therapy. It was a government initiative several years back, they trained up loads of cbt therapists. And some counsellors from previous structures were carried over into the new service structure. Your assessment will be for whether the therapies they offer suit your needs.

Thanks on the phone she just said that it was an appointment for an assesment with a counsellor and the letter just said date and time and IAPT assesment basically!

What if they Decide they can't help?!

Sorry to be so long checking in again. If their therapies don't suit you, then they may recommend other therapy options outside of their service. Very occasionally therapy simply isn't the right thing to offer and in that case they should explain the reason.
