Talking and how to get to do it

I had a phone call with psychological services or whatever they are called yesterday. Even just that 30 minute assessment, describing what I was going through, things I was worried about etc. helped me a lot. They suggested that I could call the Samaritans to talk about things, but I feel a bit daft doing that. I guess I'm asking what ways there are to be able to talk about things to someone. Chances are they'll decide I should have CBT or just self help or something, so it won't be full on counselling. Sorry, muddled.

Don't feel daft talking to the Samaritans. They are there to listen to you. It's difficult taking that first step, but you will feel better if you do.

Write down what you want to say so that you're not talking "off the cuff".

hello Angry sorry but I feel angry for you that samaritans were suggested. Just proves how rubbish MH services are. Yes samaritans are there but so should immediate counselling etc. Fustrated that MH illness is not recognised as being as serious as a physical illness. Sorry for the rant.

All the above said I would suggest contacting samaritans, have used them myself. It is good in between support from MH services

Thank you all. It's good to think there is somewhere, at least. brightandbreezy I agree. I said I'd like counselling but think they will say cbt. I really just want to talk to someone. I will have to talk to DH about private counselling I think.

Private counselling sounds like a good optionSmile

Have you got in touch with the IAPT organisation yet ? It's a nationwide NHS initiative to offer talking therapies for those who need them. Google them & you'll find a list of who is offering it in your area. It's free, and they do do CBT but also other therapies if/when needed. When I contacted them a few weeks ago I had an appointment within a week to start therapy, all free. It's much more thorough than anything I've been offered before, and I can't afford private therapy. I've had a one hour face to face appointment each week, and have been reassured that it will continue until I'm in recovery. A real life saver.

judgepickles, yes that's who I had the phone call with. They are going to give me CBT, face to face, but there's a six week wait. It's more than I thought I'd get so it's good, and I think the ADs are kicking in a bit now so not feeling so low and desperate.
