A very good private psychiatrist is Dr Mike McPhillips. Can't recommend highly enough.

Good personal experience, willing to offer alternatives to standard NHS treatments. No clock watching either, appointments as long as needed with no extra charge (unless you go massively over your appointment time). Seem to book well spaced appointments so no pressure.

Dr. Stephen Pereira. I love him. He's based in London Bridge.

Not strictly London but within travelling distance (Sevenoaks) Dr Mike Bott is superb.

How much do these doctors charge please, I have no health insurance

windchimes23 Mon 29-Dec-14 08:53:51

My Psychatrist is £500 per hour. Luckily I have insurance.

£500 an hour?! At that rate I could afford one or two consultations only.

Can you see a private psychiatrist and then get your NHS GP to prescribe any recommended medications?

windchimes23 Mon 29-Dec-14 19:04:04

You'd need a diagnosis which they will drag out over four to six sessions. Then you can get an NHS script when they think you are stable on what they prescribe sad

sounds like a good way for them to make money then.
I will have to stick with my NHS psychiatrist even though I think he is incompetent.

Private is no better than NHS in my opinion, just you get to sit in a posh waiting room with a better class of mentalist. (I am a council estate kid, so not dissing the un-posh wink).
