Doctor just given me 2 months sick leave for stress - scared of consequences

I returned from mat leave 3 weeks ago and am working full time in a stressful job (part time request was declined) and also dealing with a relationship breakup so trying to cope as a single mum.
I feel so overwhelmed and exhausted with it all i worry I can't hold it together, mainly at work. And I miss my ds.
So I explained this to doctor today and she said I need a break to recover and gave me sick note for 2 months. I have been on ADs since May (had PND) I really wasn't expecting that from her. I know I need it but how the hell do I tell work? they will be up s*t creek without a paddle if I just left suddenly. I almost feel like I should give notice.
I plan to leave anyway and find a better part time or less stressful job. This will give me the breathing space I need to get my head straight. Will I have to tell potential employers that I am on sick leave and is it not right for me to go to interviews while I am on sick leave?

Hello Bumbljumble

I'm in a similar situation to you. I will be due back shortly to work but have postnatal anxiety amongst other things so it's looking highly unlikely. I'm scared of the fallout too.

It sounds like you definitely need the time off so if I were you I seriously would be putting myself first and just doing what you have to do to for you. Your job is definitely not as important as your health. I'd not feel bad going for interviews while off sick given the tough time you've had.

Anyway, I kind of just wanted to say I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks for your message lamadeleine.
You are right health comes first, I really hope things work out for you too and sorry you have had a tough time.
It's weird, the first few days I quite enjoyed the novelty of being back at work but it's got worse and it's just burning me out big time..

No probs. Nothing worse than that burnout feeling when you already have so much going on, it can be scary. Feel free to give me a shout if you need to vent.
