Feeling suicidal when have PMS

changeofnamewithbellson · 13/12/2013 03:48

I had feelings like this when I was on the pill.

Now I am off it but when I have PMS am very down, sad, easily tearful and feel their is no point. Spent most of the day crying on and off and thinking up ways to end it all. (I am not going to do it - I feel bad for the trouble it would cause everyone)

By tomorrow will likely feel better again.

It is frightening.

Hi change, it is a really nasty feeling isn't it? I feel for you (hug).
The thing is we bottom out completely hormone wise a day or so before blood shows. There are a handful of hormones that peak and trough at various points in our cycle. You may find it helpful to look them up and find out which ones are causing you to feel this way. Some can be boosted by taking evening primrose oil or star flower oil, some you may find that a gp can assist you with in terms of other medicines. There are other herbal remedies that may help with your pmt such as skull cap for anxiety, valerian root for stress. You may find that looking at diet can help (recommend the 'food doctor' book 'ayavadic (sp?) for women'). Many culinary herbs can help to regulate moods, it may be worth you looking these up.

I tend to advise women to 'plan' for the down days, so things like housework to be up to date; as that will free up some quiet 'me' time, fresh air and walking helps with a sluggish endocrine system. Relaxing baths, time to tune out of other people around (head phones and iPod, very good for creating a personal space and shows kids that you need some peace). I also recommend letting children (if you have them) know that you are due on etc, they need to chill and understand that for many woman this is the time when a bit of peace is needed. Sometimes I think that the idea of a 'red tent' is brilliant.

I hope that you feel better soon

I don't have anything sensible to say, but hope you're feeling better tomorrow.

A couple of months ago I was not in a great place, I often think about ending everything (but I'm too much of a coward and far too selfish - I want to stay with my DC even though I know it would be better for them if I didn't) but that time I actually thought of taking my children with me. That really scared me. But it was like a switch that turned off inside me as soon as I got the cramps and bleeding started. Which has made me wonder if it is connected to my cycle. This last month has been better, but I'm not sure if that's because I wasn't as tired, wasn't so ill or because I was watching out for it in relation to my period.

I know it's not the same, because I don't get tearful (I don't cry) but for me the only thing that keeps me going is I know that mood wise things lift a little when I get my period, then after it's finished I get 4 or 5 days of really energetic, hyper healthy productive days before going back to normal. I think what I'm (badly) trying to say is hang in there, you know it will improve in a day or so.

Sounds like a great idea to look at diets/suppliments that can help.

Am already on 225 of venlafaxine and am normally ok on that.

Was so ready to do it yesterday and Wed eve...but today am ok! What the hell is that about?

Bloody frightening!
