Is/has anyone been on this before?

I've just been prescribed it for depression/panic disorder/obsessive compulsive tendancies/phobias (don't do things by half!).

I'm already on propranolol (80mg) and have been told to continue with this as well.

Just wondering how succssful it has been for others, and whether you had any side effects?

Thanks v much.

I was on it after terrible anxiety. It was the most fantastic ad I've ever been on ( and I've been on pretty much all of them!) I felt lit up inside. It was great. BUT I could not stop eating on it. So I came off it, but I still think about that golden time on it even now. No other med has ever come close to that one!

I've been on it for almost 10 years at a very low dose. I think because it is an "old school" tricyclic it does not get a lot of press so to speak. It suits me very well but the side effects are dose dependant. Because I have the dose down really low (10mg per day) I am mostly free from side effects. Will probably be on it for life and that's fine with me. SSRIs did not suit me for some reason.

wow Orangeanddemons that's great about their effectiveness...not so much about the appetite though!

rosemount - I kinda expect to be on it long term (if it works), and have made my peace with that.

Another question - can you drink alcohol with it?

It didn't suit me though I'm sensitive to most side effects.
It wiped me out for a week just after taking a minute dose. I couldn't get out of bed. I also tried imipramine but had the same reaction.

Thanks Sophiedotty - was it just the tiredness that you had as a side effect? I am realy worried about the increased anxiety that they say is another side effect.

I had no increased anxiety at all. They aren't like ssris which initially increase anxiety. They heavily sedated me at first, but that soon wore of after a week or so

It was about 9 years ago I took it. I think my body just felt like I had bad flu. I was just so weak & couldn't stop crying. I was on a very low dose. It just didn't suit me at all.

Hi CuppaTea,

I have been on Clomipramine 100mg for a year. It is great! I have never had any side effects from it and don't find it to sedating. I am on it for depression/anxiety and OCD. It really helps with the anxiety/obsessive compulsive side of things.

So I tried it and it was awful; took it at bedtime, woke up at 5 and started throwing up and diarrhea (sorry - tmi), my arms and legs kept on going in to kind of spasms and I felt very panicy and was having very dark thoughts (kept on looking at the stairs with a view to throwing myself down them).

I knwo that there can be intial side effects (doc said they usually go after 2 weeks) - but there's no way in this world that I am going to put myself through that again, and absolutely not for 14 days in a row!
