Hi - I have taken it in the past and it's been an absolute godsend.

(I can't take it at present due to breast feeding).

I was on it short term earlier this year and it did the job.

They won't give it to you long term though as its addictive.

I was so worried about taking diazepam 5mg, but honestly its brilliant stuff.

You will be fine, please don't worry and take it if you need it. Why suffer if you don't have to?

Good luck :)

If you have been prescribed it the Dr must think it would benefit you.

If taken for about 5 days it is very useful and non addictive.

I've taken it after I had a MMC and when my migraines have been very bad. I was very dubious as my mum was addicted when I was a kid and my friends mum is still unable to come off it. But they were on it for YEARS

Please let make the most of this wonder drug to give you some anxiety free days. Good Luck

Another vote for it as a great anxiety reducer (and was equally wary of taking it ). Also it still worked well for me at the lower dose . Please take it as it was magical in its help for me.

I have taken it short term too (over several weeks) and it helped like nothing else did. There was no problem for me in stopping taking it either and I always have some in the house now to deal with crippling anxiety which just sneaks up sometimes. I rarely if ever take it but it helps just knowing it is there.

I've used it in the past too and was HUGE help getting through some difficult times. It's not a large dose, so you'll be fine and it really will help.
Good Luck x

Unfortunately it made me worse - I couldnt sleep, shakey and drugged out. I just think my body fights any drugs.

ANxiety is helped with cognative therapy, books etc. I do find its my downfall but have managed it without drugs.

I've taken it to help me sleep and always felt very mellow the day after. No anxiety at all.
Doctor told me it was for short term use only though.
Hope it helps you to feel better.

it probably stopped me doing something really stupid when syffering severe PTSD but it is for short term use only it is VERY addictive. in a crisis though it works like nothing else and can give you the break you need from damagaing thoughts so you can get perspective. 2mg is a very small dose. it will make you feel dopey. agree with bacon though, you need to work through anxiety.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for all your advise...its been really great!

I just wanted to come back on and give you a little bit of background. I have been suffering with Anxiety since the birth on my first DS, now 6. I have mostly managed with the symptoms on my own. I have had CBT and also hypnotheray - both help and for a long time my anxiety was very managable. Recently however it had been creeping up and up and it all came to a head a few weeks again when I thought I was having a complete breakdown (a very, very scary and horrible time) This came on all of a sudden one sunday and I went to my GP on the Monday. She took blood as she thought I looked very pale. Turns out I had a heamaglobin of 5.9 (should be 13) so that pretty much explained the breakdown away due to lack of oxegen that was getting to my brain. I was taken into hospital that night and transfused with 4 pints of blood. When I left hospital I was feeling on top of the world. This week I seem to be feeling very anxious again. Long story short my HG has been dropping over a very long time due to extremely heavy periods since birth of DS2 4 years ago. I am now back on my period - first since I was in hospital and its just all very overwhelming....

I have take my first diazipam and am hoping and praying for a restful and sleep filled night. Thanks again for all your support. I realise now that I need more help with the anxiety and have agreed to speak to the CPN at my GP's.

Goodnight all x x x

Yommy sorry that you had such a bad time- and that hb is mega low . Have you been given iron tabs or diet advice as can take a month or two to build up hb (blood is short term fix)? Also think of can do some talking based therapy ( if CPU can offer or help) that may help identity triggers. Cbt and hypno can be excellent but sometimes something that delves deeper can help.

I was prescribed it as a muscle relaxant for my fractured hip, I was terrified to take it as we went abroad the day after I was prescribed it and it said don't take if you have serious lung problems which I have. I eventually took it and dp hardly slept as he was so worried! Didn't do much for me but I was fine.

Hi I have taken 2mg of Diazepam on and off for a while.

Mine is prescribed to help with Bruxism (jaw clenching/teeth grinding in my sleep) which is made worse by stress and anxiety.

I was petrified but its been fine. 2mg is a very low dose and can just take the edge off feelings - for me its a short term muscle relaxant to help prevent the pain I get at night when I clench my jaw in my sleep, but I do generally feel a little less tense when I take it. I have only ever taken mine at bedtime so not sure how it would affect functioning during the day but dont think it would too much as its quite mild iykwim.

I have just been prescribed diazepam 2mg for anxiety. I was becoming breathless and felt low. I have been told that symptoms I have been having are due to stress and anxiety. I get like a whirring sensation in my belly and for no reason I suddenly feel really scared. When it passes I often feel the need to go to the toilet
Is this a panic/anxiety attack?

Report
Nerdygalwithabook · 26/05/2016 10:07

Debrye. That sounds like a panic attack. Although it differs for everyone.

Hi ladies, I was prescribed diazepam today and after reading the advice leaflet I must admit it got me a little worried in taking them myself but after reading through this thread it has put my mind at ease. Mumsnet is one of the best 😊 I can always find answers on here, so thank you. It's good to know that I'm not the only one.

Hi there everyone,I was given 2mg three times a day off my go only on my third week,I never take tablets due to a bad experience after a bad car crash 22 yrs ago,I've been poorly for the last 5 yrs, very stressed anxious etc, been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and after a number of MRI scans they found a bulging disc in my cervical c4 c5 which has made me worry I like mad,the pain and symptoms knocked me over the edge with worry,my gp gave me diazepam to help me,it took me nearly a day looking at them before I finally gave in and took one, well what can I say,I felt alive and normal within 30 mins, but they don't seem to be having the same effect now,I'm frightened of driving on my own even though I know I won't crash again,my gp thinks I have ptsd, don't get me wrong, they have defiantly helped a lot some days,I'm allowed 3x2 mg per day but so far only managed 1 x2 mg broken into 4,I'm wondering if I'm not getting the right effect with only taking such a small dose,I just don't want to get addicted if I take more, any suggestions would be appreciated thanks
