going to gp with anxiety/excessive crying issues

If I went to the GP to discuss the fact that I can't stop crying and feel emotionally upset about lots of issues in my life - will if affect my life insurance? Or if I try to get critical illness cover?

Also, what do you think they might advise? I am trying to eat healthy, sleep properly and have been exercising to try and manage stress. What else might be offered... not even sure it is a serious enough problem to be addressed by a GP but I need to stop crying; it is starting to impinge on my job and everyday life. Thanks.

You could ask for counceling, to try and get to the bottom of the issues that make you upset. Depending on your other symptoms, you might be depressed or suffering stress, and your GP might suggest medicine. You might get signed off from work.

I've no real idea about the life insurance/critical illness thing, but google seems to imply that you'll still be eligible for life insurance (and if its an old policy, why would it be affected? You weren't suicidal when you took it out, after all, so the development of this condition should be classed as "just one of those things" by the insurance company. I am pretty naiive about the levels to which insurance companies will stoop, however). This article looks like it would be very useful to you!

Certainly, I don't think it's worth suffering longer than you need to, simply out of fear regarding what might happen if you try to get insurance!

Thanks very much. I think I do need to talk about things. I'm going to go on Monday and ask about counselling. It is like issues that I have pushed away when I was younger are just all coming to the surface and I have to face them, not sure where to start but have to tackle this. Thanks for replying and linking articles

No problem, I know how I feel when nobody replies! Good luck with the GP!
