Any good ways to deal with sedation? (from meds)

I take an antipsychotic and an antidepressant. Chatting to other outpatients today, a lot of people seem to feel over-sedated (e.g. waking up in the morning and being clumsy/walking into things/feel sedated for a good few hours).

Though it seems to be a widespread issue, the only ways people suggested of dealing with this are:
i. Go back to bed (not an option for me)
ii. don't do anything requiring any fine motor/thought until the afternoon
iii. Take less meds that they're given (I really do not want to become unwell, so wouldn't do this).

Does anyone have any good ways of getting rid of this feeling, or the effects of it?

Not on medication to this level but to combat nasty side effects of ADs i took them at night before i went to bed, it kinda worked....bet youve thought of this havent you?

I would suggest taking them at another time. I have found that if I take my concotion of meds at about half seven at night I dont feel so bad in the morning. Its taken a long time to figure out the best time to take them but very worth it for me :)

Interesting............one of the doctor's at work told one of my patients recently that he could prescribe a drug that would counteract the sedative effects of his medication. I'll ask him what drug he had in mind next time I see him - then let you know!

That sounds very interesting, inhibernation , be interested to hear about that.

As far as timings go, I split my anti-depressant (taking it all at night means I sweat horribly and too uncomfortable to sleep), and I am fortunate in that the hospital are still prescribing the anti-psychotic so I get the slow-release version (GPs not allowed to prescribe in my PCT). Taking the normal version was worse with the sedation (and not good for compliance, as it was get up in the morning, fall over everything and then take some more, so I'm lucky re: my psych team).

I ended up eating sugary things to give me energy. Very bad idea long term but it might work the odd time?
