Emetophobia question

How can I beat this horrible phobia?

I have taken 20mg of Citalopram for 4 years, but I'm not sure that I really have anxiety or depression as such. I just have this extremely intense fear of vomiting, and whenever anyone near to me is ill, or I feel in the slightest bit queasy, I have awful feelings of dread and fear. Sometimes these manifest themselves physically in hte form of shaking, or the runs. Mostly, the agony is hidden, happens several times a week but always passes, and I have a normal life IYKWIM?

I haven't seen my GP to review my prescrption for about 3 years. Would it be worth continuing wiht the citalopram and discussing the issue with them? I don't know what they could do. My GP also gave me an anti-emetic called metacloprimide 10mg to use, but my one recent experience wiht a stomach upset 12 months ago was that it didn't work.

Has anyone ever overcome this phobia? Is it really possible to overcome something that has troubled me through childhood?

I think seeing your GP is a good idea. CBT can be used successfully to treat Emetophobia, ask for a referral...it's worth a try isn't it?
