Can anyone offer advice on this please? Also self harming is a problem. Don't want to say too much even though have name changed.

Thanks

Um, no good advice, but I remember being a depressed teenager, and it was horrid. Even if they do not seem to want you to, drag them to professional advice - gp/ counselor at college; it is hard to motivate yourself when depressed.
Self harming is a symptom, and it should go when they are feeling better, rather than a problem of its own. Stressing out about it can be counter productive.
Any specific questions?

There have been quite a few threads on teenage depression over on the Teenagers section, and some very experienced MNers with words of wisdom.

The general advice is to get them to the GP for counselling and, if necessary, anti depressants.

also, I recommend informing personal tutor at school/college and if uni application is relevant, do state mental health issue as your child will receive all sorts of support.
