Healthy mind, healthy body...join me?

Does anyone want to join me in a support thread?

I need to get moving for the good of my mental health - not to lose weight, or get fit, or socialise (although those things would be nice ) but to get some of those magical endorphins and calming whatevers that I keep hearing about.

So, nothing scary, no weighing, no minimums, no failiures to worry about or even going out if we don't want to, but lets encourage each other to, you know, blow out the cobwebs and move our arses a bit

You don't need to tell us why you are here, you might just be a bit bored, you might be seriously unwell, you might just want to gee yourself up a bit before starting a "proper" training routine, what matters is that you want to try moving a bit to help yourself cheer up/calm down/generally straighten out your head a bit.

I'll start - today I went outside with the kids for a half hour walk, and once they are in bed I'm going to look up some yoga on the internet and give that a try - can anyone recommend anything?

"Mens Sana In Corpore Sano" should apparently be our motto...

I'd quite like to join!
Me and DD1 have been slowly getting out of the house (agoraphobia for her), and have slowly worked ourselves up to a whole hour walk in the woods.
No advice re: yoga, have been doing a few bits on the Wii, but it's a bit shit boring.

Hi

Sounds like a good idea. I've been doing the Shred (see fitness threads) and it really does pick up your mood. So does daylight. Was ill last week - no shred and not much sunlight and now feel down and flat, so will definitely join you to get the metabolism and mood up again.

Yoga- I do Rodney Yee Power Yoga - very soothing but very long (about an hour) so rarely get more than 1/2 way through.

I would love to join you! I used to exercise several times a week, but since having DC2 (17 months) I find that I have very little time as DH is out at work from 6am until 7pm, We are both studying in the evenings (I'm doing a psychology degree and DH is doing a masters in Engineering) and our families are both over an hour away, so we don't have anyone to leave the DCs with so I can go for a swim or to the gym.

I used to love going to the gym and have even been for an induction for the gym at our leisure centre just before Christmas, but again I have made excuses as the DCs have been ill or I've had too much work to do, so I've not been since Blush .

So anyway, I need a kick up the backside to get moving!! Grin

butterpieify - did you find any good yoga stuff on the internet? I could probably do something like that when DD is at nursery and DS is having a nap.

laosvher - Going for a walk in the woods would be do-able now that DS can walk confidently, although we might not get far!! Grin Well done to your DD for confronting her fears. That must be hard for her.

Menagerie - hats off to you, that shred thing looks really hard!! How far into it have you got?

(Love the motto, BTW!!)
