Escitalopram

Hi - been on venlaflaxine, slow release, for quite a while - consultant now suggesting I move to escitalopram. Am bit confused, as it is not same group as venlaflaxine and no other ssri's had worked for me (including fluoxetine, citalopram, sertraline) etc.

Anyone had any experience on it? Or know of it. Was surprised not recommended anything else - would like to be off all, but... she also suggested an antipsycotic, quetiapiane, but she said I am not bipolar - had risperidone, got on with that before for a few weeks, but she not want to give me that one. Am scared of changed making me worse. Still no care co-ordinator ...and definitley no talking therapy on nhs after what happened to me earlier this year ---- obviously don't deserve anything apart from medication to shut me up. So part of me is saying, well as I don't deserve anyone to help me recover why should I take anything anyway. Sad

DH is on escitalopram for depression and anxiety, and it seems to help. The NHS are pretty crap with mental health care, try contacting Mind, they have been an absolute life saver for me and DH. Don't give up, it'll get better!

Thanks for info. Mind here only do advocacy or leaflets sadly. The advocate has got me a care co-ordinator after 5 months today, although of course they have chosen not to give me a cpn who could help me but someone who is a pure co-ordinator!!! So no help whatsoever.

Thanks Maim ... I see the consultant about me

dication tomorrow. Rather scared about switching to escitalopram to be honest in case it doesn't help as much as the venlaflaxine has. Don't know if have to stop one to start another.

Been sleeping lots, the way I seem to be coping right now.
