Fasting / 5:2 diet

Starting/re-starting 16:8 for spring

Freetodowhatiwant · 16/03/2021 11:59

Hello, does anyone want to join me? I've had success with IF (16:8 mainly) every spring for a couple of years now and would love to do it again in time for lockdown easing.

I am 10st 2 (I think, I will double check tomorrow) which is somewhere around/just under 65kg and would like to lose at least 4kg. My height is 5.5 so I am a size 10-12 so not really overweight but definitely feeling quite chunky and have a good few stomach rolls I don't want. I have an under active thyroid and when this was less under control reached 76kg but for the last 15 years or so have hovered between 58kg (wedding weight, probably a bit too low and 67kg). Would ideally like to stay between 60 and 62kg.

Anyone else want to join me? Today is my first proper day. I have held off with just water so far, almost midday, and I soon might have a cup of tea with milk to stave off lunch a bit longer because I know I won't be able to eat as early as I would like this evening so it's going to be quite a late dinner unfortunately. With alcohol too. So technically I would be better off starting tomorrow but anyway...

I’ll join you! I’ve been noticing that I have missed lunch a couple of times recently and figured I should probably just move breakfast to brunch instead and go for 16:8
I’ve got quite a bit more weight to lose than you. I’ll weigh properly tomorrow Confused.
I’m also going to quit wine.

How long are we doing this for? Ten weeks?

Come join us on the 16:8 thread ! Several of us have been doing for months, others are still newbies.

@Freetodowhatiwant I'm similar in that I don't have a lot to lose, but I'd like to get some body recomposition especially as I carry weight in my stomach usually.

@BlueSkyBlinking Good luck with the wine! I only drink on weekends (Fri & Sat evenings) and think it makes a difference to weight loss for sure.

Hello @BlueSkyBlinking and thank you for joining! Hmm. When does 10 weeks take us to? I will check my diary. But essentially from now until summer if we can handle it. Quitting wine is hard! I will try to just drink on two days a week.

And thanks @ladybranstonpickle I will indeed drop by. 'Body recomposition' is a good way of seeing it. That and a good 6kg to lose. I've been trying to do it half-heartedly and it's not working so I need to go all at it now.

I started well yesterday as didn't eat lunch until 1pm BUT had a bit of a date last night and ended up drinking lots, eating a three course meal and probably not stopping until about ten. So today I have ignored the fact that I probably shouldn't eat until 5 and just started with lunch at 12.30. From now on I will be better.

I can understand the evening you had. I think alcohol is my downfall. Having looked at the thread that @ladybranstonpickle mentioned above - dropping wine seems to help people. I’m drinking a decaf coffee at the moment as a substitute. It’s not exactly the same? I’ve also noticed that I’ve started clearing out cupboards. I tend to do this when I can’t eat for some reason.
I’ve also joined the other thread but I think I also need to be part of a group starting out at the same time.

Yes that’s it, it’s nice to join with others who are just starting/restarting but I will check out the group too. Welcome Nix too! I’ve had a black coffee, did a 5k run (which is unlike me because I’m not a fan of running - I like walking lots and also lifting weights) and had a cup of tea with milk around 10.30. Couldn’t help it. Hopefully it will help me stave off lunch until after 12. As close to 1 as I can get.

When I do eat i am alto trying to low carb but that’s not always easy as I al cooking for the kids too.

I am having a coffee with milk first thing - semi skimmed and only a little. I’ll move to black coffee when it feels comfy.
But I fasted from 6pm to 10.30am. Since then I’ve been carb free (steak and broccoli with garlic mayo, anyone?!) but I’ll eat a regular meal with DD when she gets home from school.
Maybe I can do this?

Evening all, can I join?
Keep trying to get into the swing of fasting slowly easing myself in with 12-14 hr fasts but I ideally want to just crack on now with consistent 14/15 hour fasts. Don't want to do any longer atm as I'm breastfeeding.

The thing that gets me is...can I have a cup of tea with no sugar but oat milk in it? Or does it have to be water until I'm ready to eat? So much mixed info out there.

SW: 12s7
GW is 10s7 and if I could be that weight by summer that would be amazing (so approx 3 months for 2 stone)

You shouldn’t really have milk. Some people call it a dirty fast, I think. But it’s my adaptation for the first week or so. I’ve started and quit so many things that I feel I need to do this in a way that works for me. If you can stick to water or tea without milk, that’s the best way.
Your stats are very similar to mine. I need to go from 12.3 to 10.6. I’m going to start my third fast in ten minutes. Confused

@BlueSkyBlinking ahhhhhhh see I had thought that but hoped otherwise haha. I think I may have to do a dirty fast then! Maybe I'll use skimmed oat milk instead for less cals as I'm not sure I'll cope with nothing at all after a 4/5am wake up with the baby 😆

I've started my fast at 5.45pm. I need to do a bit of research around fasting and how to maximise the benefits !

There is also the other thread mentioned above. I’m reading that to get more info. Although I have a migraine today so it’s slow going. I really hope the fast didn’t provoke the migraine!
