Hi,

A my titles states I'd be curious to know if the fast800 has negatively or positively impacted your eating behaviours? I'm personally someone who can finishes off all the hot bread if I'm in the right frame of mind, where as i have some friends who are overweight who would never binge, so interested for whom this diet may work for. One really kind poster stated it had helped her and would be keen to hear from others - thank you!

Interested in responses to this too. I haven't started it yet, but finished the book a few days ago and am trying the time restricted eating, which seems to help me feel a lot more in control of my eating. My prime binge time is evening, after the kids are in bed, so not eating then seems to be a big help in shifting my mindset. I'm trying to be more mindful of carbs and need to properly meal plan so I can start following more of the principles of the diet. I'm a bit scared to try 800cals every day, so might ease in with 5:2

Yes it works well for me, I have PCOS & struggle to lose weight and am a comfort eater - happy/sad/angry - any reason! After work whilst cooking dinner was my worst binge time. I found using My Fitness Pal to count calories crucial - I allowed 800 a day, then had the extra calories earned from walking the dog as a safety net. Didn’t count calories for green veg/salad. Counting calories is restrictive, & someone will be along to day that it’s not mentally healthy/calories aren’t an accurate measure for fats/sugars etc, but it worked for me. I found 5:2 harder, because being a binger, having 5 days to ‘eat what you like’ was like giving myself permission to literally do that!

And also using the Headspace app really helped - you can choose 3/5/10 minute sessions to fit in with your day. I’ve also just finished reading ‘The Headspace Diet’ which really makes me look at what I’m eating/craving and why - so important when you’re a comfort eater!

Plainandsimple thank you for sharing. Are you still following this and how long have you been doing it for?

I think I am very similar to you I don't want my days off to just be an excuse to eat anything. I like the idea you don't count salad- leafy greens.

I tried headspace whilst driving and realized at the point it said close your eyes - it wasn't the best time to have a go. You mentioned your binge time, yes that is mine too - when I get in from work (I'm oddly manic), fine when I leave work but by the time I get home and I'm making others their evening meal. It's not anyone else's fault but my monkey brain, however organized and on it I have been in the day, I get this craving for ++ carbs at that time. If I have had a stressful day it is really hard. All my logic and planning go out the window. Prior to having children I kept my weight down through distraction I think, I didn't just come after a hard day and make a meal or be in the kitchen. I'd go out.

I don't want to dominate these boards with my own challenges but really appreciate you sharing the above it's motivating to read :-)

Misskatamari it sounds like you are doing brilliantly, are you doing the 5;2 only? I think after the kids have gone to bed is a common time for lots of people. Yes I often have 800 kcal for breakfast!!! I have also noticed as the years have gone my assessment of what is a portion size has changed, I now look at foods and think that's not much (greedy brain!). Good luck and keep us posted on your progress...

Blood Sugar Diet and Fast800 thread 14 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3532374-blood-sugar-diet-and-fast800-thread-14

Come and join us on our blood sugar diet/fast 800 thread

I'm a long term follower of this diet and have lost 3 stone. I've had periods of time where I have struggled, as is normal but currently doing a 100% sugar free stint before the summer and can honestly say I've not binged for 2 weeks.

Yes 100%. I'm just more conscious of what I eat now. Accidentally ate 3 chocolate biscuits earlier and now feel disgusted with myself whereas before I would have finished the pack and pretended it was the kids.
