Fasting / 5:2 diet

What do you eat on fast days? I'm starving?

I'm planning on having soup for lunch! But is there anything I can snack on if I'm very hungry?

I saw strawberries are 4 cals each so I'm thinking maybe a couple of them.

Anything lower in calories? Are there any foods that are calorie free?

Make sure your getting enough fats that's the biggest thing. I tend to do:
10am - 2 tbsp full fat Greek yogurt, 50g blueberries, 5g granola
1pm - lunch of chicken soup
6:30pm - blood sugar diet recipes: chicken korma with cauliflower rice, turkey burgers, chicken wrapped in pancetta.

Often skip the breakfast and go straight to soup. I also use COOK meals for lunch, they do a great range around 300cals.

I tend to go for volume - things that are big but low calorie. Tuna salad with lots of lettuce, rice cakes, soup, cauliflower, broccoli.

I’ve just cooked myself some Asian noodle & veg soup using homemade chicken stock, carrots, pak choi, pea pods and zero protein noodles. With a dipping sauce of Chilli, soy & lime juice. I’m now feeling really full.
For dinner last night I had lots of cauliflower rice with lentil/chicken curry and the night before courgetti with homemade Bolognase made with 5% fat mince, lots of tomatoes and a generous amount of olive oil.
For Snacks I have a few almonds or spoon of humous with crudités or raspberries with a spoon of ricotta. I’m also thinking olives might be a good snack.
I’m only three days in and I really hate feeling hungry!

Yes I skip breakfast too! I find I need more food later in the day!

Teta - the soup sounds lovely! Do you know how many calories it was?

I might actually make my own soup! I had a skinny soup yesterday - it was only 67 cals for half of the tub and it was horrible Confused

5:2 is low carb, isn’t it? Shouldn’t be eating porridge, rice cakes etc.

seriously long I worked it out as being around 175. The Bare Naked Protein noodles are about 35 calories for the whole packet and are very filling. The carrots & pak choi are around 40 and 100 for the chicken stock.
Skinny soup is tasteless sadly. The only soup I rate is Yorkshire Provender but I’m not sure how carby it is.
It’s so easy to make your own. We tend to rotate these favourites.

Michael Mosleys happy gut chicken soup is delicious.
Kale soup with crispy Chorizo.
Spicy beef soup with paprika & Caraway.
Noodle soup.
Leek & potato( don’t know what to substitute for potato instead😒
Nigella Lawson green minestrone is good too.

Porridge does sound a bit too carby for a fast day. But I guess you’re still learning.Me too. I think I’ve eaten too much lentil curry tonight as it’s pretty high in carbs.

5:2 isn’t necessarily low carb. You can eat what you like on any day including carbs, you just are probably fuller for longer on fast days of 500 cals if you eat protein.

The new fast800 is recommending low carb if you’re doing two fast days a week. Also 800 calories a day rather than the lower number advised before. Also I might be wrong but I’m not sure low carb was recommended for the old 5/2?
Yep, cauliflower and cheese would work.

5:2 was just eating healthily under 500kcal, 2 days a week.

The fast 800 is low carb recommended.

So today I made a soup with tom yum paste, naked noodles and some stir fry veg - obv I didn't fry this! A big pot is 161 cals Smile it's yummy and filling so thanks for recommending the naked noodles best invention ever!!

I teach a fitness class in the evening so I feel like I need the porridge or else I won't have the strength although with my new soup I might be able to do without but he porridge feels like a massive filling treat Grin

Does anyone know anything about the NOOM diet? I see it constantly advertised but no real details unless you pay up front.
Any clues to what it is? I need a rough idea before I commit. Thanks.

I find it much easier to eat nothing until dinner. Small, unsatisfying snacks just make me hungrier. I drink gallons of sparkling water and it helps a lot.

How about a stick of celery with peanut butter .
Where do you buy the naked noodles please?

Slim noodles can be bought on Amazon. And Barenaked noodles in Sainsbury's. The Barenaked are more expensive but they come in different sizes so they have some that are like spaghetti so perfect to have in pasta dishes.
