have you used calculators to see how many calories you really need?

are you measuring your food? edpecially oils?

do you snack?

5 days is not very long. stick at it and review your portion sizes.

making sure I drink water and do not snack. I guess 5 days isnt very long but reading about people who have lost 5, 6 or more pounds in 7 days is making me feel very low

Come and join us on our thread, lots of people are doing the fast 800 in some form or another and may be able to help!

Blood sugar diet thread 13 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3437086-blood-sugar-diet-thread-13

The main reasons could be if you're not drinking enough water, or if you're suffering with water retention? Totm? Not weighing and measuring your foods correctly, or guessing portions? Have you started exercising alongside As when you first start a rigorous exercise regime you can retain water?

Plus the initial whoosh of weight loss is a combination of retained water and visceral fat, so if either of these (or both) don't apply to you, for example if you don't have much visceral fat due to having been previously on a diet or if you generally eat a low carb diet anyway, you might not get the initial whoosh of weight loss.

It's frustrating though!

have you measured yourself? losing the visceral fat at first doesn't necessarily result in weight loss. but might show on the tape measure

It also depends how much you have to lose? People losing lots of weight early on may have more to lose than you and so are losing more?

Hi -this has been my problem too. I have done 5 days at 800 cals and moved not one pound! So demoralising. Have you started to shift any weight yet? I hope so!

Generally have been eating the following each day:

B: vegetable juice such as cucumber or celery
L: slice of chicken with about half a cup full of green salad/ mixed veg
D: A Greek yogurt 0% fat OR a two egg cheese omelette

SN: a small glass of red wine
packet of crisps.

All come under 800 cals and low carb too.
Any advice???

fatneedtobelighterhelp have you read the Fast 800 book? Because the food you're describing does not fit the plan at all. Too many carbs, not enough protein and fat, and not enough veggies. You should not be having any juice and only occasional wine.

Fat I agree with the poster above. You need to read the book first, this isn't like 'the other' diets.

Using your menu, I'd ditch the juice entirely and add those veg into a meal (eg cucumber sticks on the side of a meal). This will extend your fasting period until lunchtime. Using the calories from your wine/snack in the evening, double the amount of chicken you have. Even better, add something with fat (such as cheese, half an avocado, egg or oily fish). For dinner, the cheese omelette is great, but the 0% fat yoghurt should really be full fat. It sounds crazy but it works. Ditch the crisps. You can have an occasional glass of red wine.

Please come and join us on our threads, there's so much advice and support there for when you're struggling. Thanks

I did low calorie for a week too once and didn’t lose but this time, granted only s day in eating low carb and no sugar and I feel thinner. Going to start measuring too. Not done low carb before really so I’m keen to try it. Good luck one and all

I started on Monday and have lost 2lb already. I am eating loads of veg/salad, prawns, beef, fish, avocado, eggs, full fat greek yogurt/berries etc. No carbs or alcohol. I reckon i am actually eating more than 800 cal as i have no inclination to weigh and count veg/salad.

@into Can you post any of your food diaries? @Terror & @newaverage are right about foods.

My big tip is to make sure you drink more than 3L of water a day, up your salt & your magnesium.

This is definitely not a way of eating where you can eyeball amounts, you need to be relatively precise and eat the right things (i.e high protein & fat and avoid almost all carbs)

A calorie is not a calorie , so 90 cal of crisps are not equal to 90 cal of broccoli. These calories will be processed in different ways and your gut bacteria will evolve in different ways.
So crisps and wine should go. Alcohol are just pure empty calories and having crisps will just feed an addiction/craving to artificial industrial processed food.

If you’d hormones/ thyroid are not optimal you will struggle to loose weight regardless of what ‘plan’ you’re following

I get you OP - I lost 6lbs last week but nothing this week, despite sticking to it like glue 6 days out of 7.

Went out for my wedding anniversary on Saturday, so broke it one day for dinner - but still kept to the lots of protein + veg/no carbs thing, just a fair bit higher than 800 cals that day - but still less than 2000 cals in total for the day so shouldn't have stopped me losing weight!

Also walking around 12000-15000 steps a day (work is a decent 2 mile walk away, so trying to walk there and back quickly whenever it's not raining).

So on paper no reason not to have lost weight, but I just haven't. Very frustrating. I'll try drinking more water this week as PP suggested.
