Fasting / 5:2 diet

Struggling - DH thinks 5:2 is antisocial

I've been enjoying 5:2 for a couple of months now. Fast days aren't easy but I've found ways of making it work for me such as eating separately and having a bath in the even8ngs. If I'm downstairs watching tv I have to nibble. Get no cravings upstairs! And tonight DH said I'm a bit antisocial on fast days.

It's also been harder the last couple of weeks. I've found myself grabbing mouthfuls of pasta or chips (kids tea) so gone over the 500 every time. My control has gone a bit. Is it because my body needs the food? I'm 9st exactly now. On non fast days I don't count at all, eat anything I want, just no alcohol mon till Thursday.

Do I stick with it or do I take a break?

I would ask your DH it bothers him that twice a week you eating separately from him (or the rest or the family)?
What if you weren't in the house at that time? Would that bother him as well?

If your control has gone is perhaps that you have to many simple carbs during those 5 days you aren't fasting?

Anti thanks for replying, I am a carb nut yes, so on non fast days I eat a lot of bread and pasta ( though bread mostly brown). Even on fast days I usually have a jacket potato! How does this affect my control on fast days?

With DH it's not just the eating, it's the way I disappear upstairs for the whole evening. But he can deal with it. The main problem is my self control going downhill. I should be FD tomorrow but just can't face it sadly. Maybe two weeks off and then my body will be ready again. I loved fasting at first, actually felt good on it.

@tastylancs I'm pretty sure that you can now FD on 800 cals? Would that help?

I am sire that having carbs such as pptatoes will affect your appetite.
New research says that carbs in reheated pasta and rice are not absorbed as fast and they are also very beneficial to our gut. Maybe try to eat your favoirite pasta this way?
I am not sure if thos applies to potatoes.

I’m not a big carb eater but I found that 5:2 caused me to binge on non-FDs. I’m getting on much better with 16:8.

I agree with @poster footballmum , the same for me, much easier for me to keep with 14:10 and some days I manage 16:8 than to do 5:2. I think it's worth trying for you to change something and see how it goes.

Grim do you really think 800 calories on FD would be ok for me? Is this what you're supposed to do when you reach goal weight or is it just for when you physically can't cope with 500 limit?

I definitely need to make an adjustment if I'm to stick with this WOL. Don't want my body to waste away on it. Anti and football please remind me what 14:8 etc are. Is this when you only eat at certain times of the day?

I've only fasted one day this week. Having half term totally off but then want to feel confident to return to 5:2 or similar the week after. Hope I haven't put all weight back on by then!

14:8 means that you fast 14 hours in 24 period.
16:8 - fasting for 16 hours and so on.

Don't worry about wasting away. Learn to adjust to eat every day only let say between midday and 8 pm.
