Fasting / 5:2 diet

Overeating on non fast days

I'm aware this is a fairly common problem and there may be other threads but I couldn't find any...

I've been doing 5:2 or sometimes 4:3 for a few weeks now and starting to find the fast days much easier. Problem is with the NFDs - I am not exactly sure of my TDEE (get soo many different answers with the online calculators) but pretty sure it is well under the 2200 or so I tend to eat Blush.

I find the urge to "treat" myself on NFDs hard to ignore. It's not that I eat much junk or binge as such - portion control and chocolate cravings after every meal are my main enemies, also feeling hungry by 5/6pm so having a large snack, then still needing dinner later.

Has anyone managed to conquer this? Thanks in advance

I haven't managed to conquer it. In fact I'm thinking about swapping to low carb diet, as I did this a few years ago, and just stopped feeling hungry really, so it wasn't a problem.

Some days I cave in at 6pm, especially when I'm feeding the DC.

On good days I can stop myself by thinking that I didn't go through the pain of a FD to sabotage myself on a NFD. That means the FD wasn't worth it.

Other tips are to have something low calorie - a whole raw carrot or Bovril?

I tried this and it made my IBS worse. And I can see why you would want to treat yourself on none fast days, I think it creates cravings, in a way it's not a good way to diet.

I would rather eat through out the day and be on a deficit than fast.

I had this too. I’ve switched to fasting until lunch daily which is much easier to maintain. I’m not a breakfast person so it works well for me and the weight is staying off.

Sorry I forgot I started this! NFDs still a problem for me. If I'm doing ok on calories I end up rewarding myself with crisps, wine or chocolate HmmBlush

I'm starting to realise this is not the diet for me - possibly due to past ED issues.

fins I tried LCHF and was still hungry all the time! DH does it and has had great results though, horses for courses.

lady I'm considering the same. I am a breakfast person but it is not a great habit - it just adds loads of carbs and makes me hungrier all morning. Good to know it worked for you!
