Fasting / 5:2 diet

Does 5:2 work if you're menopausal/hormonally out of whack?

I'm trying to shift 10lbs that i've put on over the last year when my periods have stopped. i've just started HRT. I've read that fasting when your homones are out of balance can send cortisol rocketing which just clings to fat. But elsewhere, I've read the meno women have had success with 5:2.

Any thoughts?

Watching - never had a problem shifting weight before - now, in between the flashes, the weird sweatiness, brain fog and desire to just give up on everything, I am getting fatter. I am definitely not eating more as I've been tracking my intake. Waaah! Sad

I've done 5:2 on and off for about 4 years now with varying degrees of success. The first year I had much less to lose than I do now and that was when it worked best ( I lost 8lb in 3 weeks at one stage which was pretty much all I needed to lose). Once I stopped though the weight steadily crept back on and more besides until I was half a stone more then I had been in the first place than when I tried the diet again the weight would not budge, not an ounce. A trip to the doctors for something else resulted in me having blood tests which showed I was going through the menopause at 41. I resigned myself to a fatter future and then 3 months later got pregnant which has left me with another stone to shift!
I've been back on 5:2 for about 7 weeks and have managed to get half a stone off but it's very up and down and painfully slow going. I do feel that my hormones are fighting against me and I have terrible water retention which is really hampering my progress but this is the only diet I've ever been able to stick to so I'm going to carry on as to give up would leave me feeling a bit hopeless.

I think half a stone in 7 weeks is good! I'd be happy with that.

I have no idea why it's so hard. I don't feel particularly bloated but I do wonder if I retain more water now I'm on the coil and estrogel. I don't eat a lot, that's for sure

I need to keep going!
