My big fat 800 calorie blood sugar diet diary, all welcome

I've started the 800 calorie Michael Mosley blood sugar diet today. I'm T2 diabetic, menopausal and need a sharp shock to do something about the way I eat.

Weight has crept up post surgeries over the past few years, I have low carbed before then caved in. I'm going to post what I eat and my progress on here as an incentive to stick to this for 8 weeks. Anyone else welcome to do the same.

Breakfast half a lavash bread, smear of tomato purée, lots of mushrooms and sprinkle of grated cheese. Very filling. 189 cal

Lunch. Little gem lettuce leaves with bacon, avocado, cucumber. 234 cal

Dinner chicken breast, sour cream with fajita spices, rocket, cucumber, avocado, celery. 337 cal

Drinking loads of water, a bit hungry.

Sending you both well wishes! My DH has had to do this recently due to being pre-diabetic. He discovered zero noodles, which are very filling and delicious in a broth with chicken and green leafy veg. Means he/we can keep dinner under 250 cals and we're not ravenous in the morning.

Hi, me too! Menopausal, getting fatter and in need of some serious motivation. I need to stop eating crap. Do you have 800 calories every day or just a couple of days a week? X

Welcome everyone! We can encourage each other. Yes, 800 calories a day - it sounds tough but I really need the discipline of this or I'll start picking at the fridge and sneaking toast. I keep trying to imagine all the fat around my organs melting away with the hunger pangs.

The book I have read to prepare for this is The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet by Michael Mosley (cheap on Amazon) which makes a lot of sense. I need to know what I'm going to eat so I sat down and made a list of a weeks worth of meals before I did my online shop. I cook for the family so they may get similar dinners with extras. I'm trying to stick to around 200 cal for breakfast, same for lunch then 400 for dinner.

Usually I am tea and toast every morning - then hungry again by ten. I'm trying different things this week. I cooked several chicken breasts and put them in the fridge as I know I'll use them.

Breakfast today is around 227 calories. Half a lavash bread (huge low carb flat breads) with sour cream, spinach, half a chopped chicken breast, some grated cheese and a sprinkle of fajita spices. Very filling and tasty and nothing like my usual breakfast.

What are you eating today?

And where do you get zero noodles?

We can do it! Posting on here every day will help. I'm hoping to lose weight (especially around my middle), be more active, get my blood sugar readings down and maybe even the hot flushes will calm down a bit. I want to see my cheekbones again and wear a dress without looking like a barrel.

Lavash bread, link below. I buy a couple of packs at a time, cut the pieces in half and freeze it. It's expensive but it lasts for a while and makes good wraps, pizza bases etc. I've only seen it online.

Hi all

I started on Thursday, I'll use this thread to track my meals (and steal your ideas!) if that's okay Smile

I think Tesco stock Lavash bread actually but I'm avoiding grains until I've done the 8 weeks so I'll save it for after that

Thanks Smile just thinking back

B- scrambled eggs with creme fraiche
L- salad leaves and cottage cheese
T- stir fried steak strips with broccoli & peppers

Fri-
B- chopped up sausage with grilled pepper & spring onion
L- salad leaves and cottage cheese
T- chicken thigh with roasted broccoli and green beans (sprinkled with lemon juice and Parmesan) and mangetout

Sat-
B- Mexican hash thing )but not the one from the book). Onions, peppers and pinto beans fried with spices and topped with two fried eggs
L- few salted peanuts Blush
T- chicken lettuce wraps with roasted veg and grated cheese.

Had snacks of a few spoons of Turkish yoghurt with chopped walnuts, and cubes of laughing cow cheeses. Oh and prawns. So most days I've been hovering around the 850 cals mark.

Feeling okay so far, not climbing the walls yet...

I've been a lazy bugger today and not even thought about breakfast so I'll probably combine with lunch now.

My DH is diabetic and has thought about doing this - I might show him this for motivation if that's ok.

Zero noodles are available in most health food stores, Holland and Barrett occasionally do two for the price of one and I stock up.

Hmm...I'm not feeling that hungry at the moment. I'm tempted to have something small (if anything at all) and then do a HUGE feck off bbq later this afternoon as the weathers so nice

BrioLover · 05/06/2016 12:35

Champagne we buy them at Holland & Barrett but think they can also be found in sainsburys and ocado.

Lunch is 100g Greek yoghurt, some flaxseeds, blueberries, few pomegranate seeds and loads of water. Breakfast was filling. This is around 200 cals. In a dainty glass dish so I feel fancy.

Hi everyone, thanks grace for setting up. I'm just starting my 2nd 8 week stint. In the first 8 weeks I averaged about 1000 cals a day, aimed for less than 50g carbs, and had zero sugar. I lost 19lb (from 13.2 to 11.11). I've just had a week away, didn't calorie count but stuck to low carb/ high fat/ protein and I've stayed the same which I'm chuffed about. Now I have 8 weeks until my summer hols and I'm going to go back to plan, 800 a day to try and get another stone off. I started this to lose my baby weight as I gained 4 stone with gestational diabetes, and I wanted to do it by the time ds is 1. I've found it surprisingly easy, and to be honest, its easier when I'm totally strict than when I try to 'cheat'. Good luck everyone!

thenewaveragebear1983 I agree, it's somehow easier to stick to when you're strict about it. I hope. That's brilliant that you didn't put any back on on holiday.

You can buy the konjac noodles in Morrison too but obviously they work out cheaper if you can get them 2 for 1 in H&B.

Dinner, I made lamb and pine nut meatballs from the Michael Mosley book. V nice. With spinach, beetroot, tomato and chickpea salad with nutty dressing. I was very hungry, have been decorating all day. I think I'm around 850 calories today which is fine. That would have been one dinner before I started this.
