Fasting / 5:2 diet

How long before you lost weight?

Hi ladies,
I'm thinking about starting 5:2, how does it work? Do you literally not eat anything for 2 days a week?
How quickly did you see a change in your body? And is it one of these diets that you put back on the weight straight away as soon as you come off it?

Thanks

Hi, Ark
Smile
Women eat 500 cals on 2 days per week, men 600 cals.

Those diets where you put it straight back on are crash diets, where a lot of weight is lost very quickly, mostly muscle and water.

Many folk on 5:2 lose inches quite quickly, because 5:2 burns fat rather than muscle, so clothes can feel looser quite early on, then the scales catch up.
Most 5:2 average 1lb per week, but those with a lot of extra weight tend to lose much more quickly.

We have a 5:2 maintainers thread - some have been maintaining now for over 2 years.
However, once you reach goal on any WOE :

If you return to your old lifestyle, you'll return to your old weight

I started the 5:2 in January 2014, weighed myself the day I started then didn't weigh again for 6 weeks when I discovered I had lost 1 stone!
I immediately saw how good the 5:2 was working for me, downloaded the my fitness pal app to keep track and haven't looked back!
You very quickly start looking at what you are actually eating and it for the most part is really enjoyable, trying out new fast day recipes and learning what food is good! I found that a good fast day was a Monday as the weekends usually meant treats, so I felt I wanted to fast on Mondays! ( and Wednesday worked for me too )
I would recommend finding a form of exercise to go alongside it, for me it was swimming, I usually swim 20-30 mins 3 or 4 times a week, which is do-able during a lunch break!, and walk as much as I can.
Just before Christmas 2014 I had lost over 5 stone! Amazing!
Over Christmas and with family birthday celebrations in January and February I put on half a stone ???? which I found difficult to lose!
I have kept to the eating healthily and exercising and have now lost another 1 1/2 stone ????, so have lost 6 stone from my original starting weight!
I was a size 26 when I started and am now a 14/16 which still amazes me as I always assumed I was just meant to be big! Apparently not! I still want to lose a bit more but am so happy with where I am now!
It has completely changed my attitude towards food, I find I make healthier choices when eating out, and that doesn't have to mean just choosing the salad!
Good luck I'm sure you will do well ????
