Hi guys,

I just started 5:2 on Monday. Today is my second fast day & its going fine so far but i'm just wondering how long does it take the weight to come off? I'm one of the people who somehow hopes to see a stone off in a week - so i havent been near the scales! But i just want a realistic view of when i can start seeing a loss!

Depends on how much you have to lose. I averaged a 1lb a week for the first stone but the last 7lbs are taking longer - about 1 lb a month. However I have been 8 stone 7 for over a year now and I find it really easy to maintain by fasting just once a week

I have just over 2 stone to loose. I'm 11 stone 9 at the minute & i'd like to get down to 9 & a half again! I'd be happy with a steady loss of a pound a week for the first stone, fingers crossed! Thanks for your reply

Hi Janine Those 2 stone took more than a week to put on, so you need to be patient to take it off safely and sustainably.

If you get emotional about the scales, hide them in a cupboard for a month. Instead, measure your waist & hips, so you can monitor inch loss.
5:2 is good at reducing fat around your middle.

Many folk lose more quickly for the first few weeks, but settle down afterwards to 1lb per week.
We advise calculating your TDEE (the calories you burn on an average day), because you may have lost sight of appropriate portion size for your body.
This is how much to eat on NFDs (Non-Fast Days)

Plenty of friendly support on the main Thread52 and the OP has all you need to know.

The scales are already hidden! My OH has hidden them so i'm not weighin myself five times a day! I've calculated my TDEE & i'm eating about 200 calories less than that on my NFD so i can have a bit more freedom on a Saturday! I'm hoping this actually works for me! Thanks for ur reply
