I use an app called MyFitnessPal.

You put some details in and it comes back and tells you how many calories you are allowed.

Each day, log into it and you list everything you have eaten. It will give the cal content so you can see how you are doing.

On my nfd I am allowed 1200.

Eat your TDEE, mine is 2000cals. 1200 is very low isn't it?

zombie, I don't have a lot to lose so that's probably why it gave me a low TDEE. Was 9st 3lb and I want to be back to 8st 3lb. Am now 8st 5lb. It has been quite a slow process but I reckon that's better than losing loads quickly and then piling it all back on.

Good luck NewName.

On MFP you need to put that you don't want to lose any weight, other wise it gives you the weight loss cals. I would bet any money that bella has 1200 as her weight loss not her TDEE

Using this calculator thefitgirls.com/tdee-calculator.aspx you would have to be 5ft tall and only weigh 5st, and do nothing all day to have a TDEE so low.

To give you an example I am 42, 5ft6" weigh 10st4 and my TDEE at moderate exercise is 2158.

Really French? Shock

To be fair though, I don't struggle with 1200. But I will go and have a look at MFP.

Have changed settings and it's given me 1460.

I am a 5ft nothing aged 48.

Oh I see Bella however I do still think 1200 is very low! I'd be gnawing my arm off :o

I've just checked mine and reset to find non-loss calorie intake = 1600. It is 400 more than the weight loss amount they calculated.

I'm just under 5ft and my TDEE is 1460. Bella those maintenance calories sounds about right.

Newname. Are you on the shorter side? Obviously not as short as me but then nobody is. 1600 is very doable, especially if you don't snack on NFD.

YES. Probably a few inches taller than you, but still a shorty Wink

remember that you are allowed top eat that bit more on the normal days cos you are eating stuff all on the fast days

You need to work out your TDEE :) If you want to stay the same you eat that, I read if your aiming to lose weight depending on how much you take away a percentage of your TDEE cals aka 10% 15% or 20% depending on how much you have to lose. If you google it it goes into better detail than i am. :)

Indeed, but the beauty of 5:2 is that ALL of the shortfall is on the fasting days.

Somewhere in the Tips and hints thread is an old summary I wrote ....

Monday = 500 calories
Tuesday = TDEE less 10%
Wednesday = TDEE less 10%
Thursday = 500 calories
Friday = TDEE
Saturday = splurge
Sunday = TDEE

that should give you about a pound a week loss

Thanks for posting that talkinpeace. I have just started this week and was wondering if I could eat my TDEE on the other days and still lose weight. I guess the 10% less on 2 days is to combat the extra calories on Sat night. I am hoping this will work for me. I have to lose 3 stone and any plan I've tried in recent years has failed. The only time I seem to lose any weight is when I do liquid diets and I'm so fed up of them, I can't face another one.

Sylvana
the Saturday extra calories is indeed why the 10% under.
The other side of it is that as you lose weight, your TDEE will drop, so having a couple of days a week where your "normal" portions are what the new normal will be make the transition easier

and if you cannot really enjoy food one day a week, what IS the point!

because of course 5:2 is for life, not just for weight loss.
I'm fasting today for the health benefits, not because I want to get much thiner ....

I've just started and put that I wanted to maintain my weight on My Fitness Pal. I've synced it with my pedometer and I excercise a lot what do I do about the calories I've burnt ? 4 days a week I burn 250 calories walking and 3 days a week I burn 450calories walking and pilates but have struggled to lose weight ! I've lost 4 pounds in 3 weeks which is a miracle for me!
