It's very cunning... Have a look at what you will look like as your BMI changes....

I will post this on low carb section as well.

Talkinpeace Thu 29-Aug-13 22:01:32

and combined with this site
it really give a feeling for what different people look like

the trouble with the graph is that it does not take into account aspects of build like the width across DHs shoulders ....

MortifiedAdams Thu 29-Aug-13 22:06:19

Bmi pisses me off. Im a size 12. Yet it as Obese.

Im.chubby at best.

NachoAddict Thu 29-Aug-13 22:07:39

This is really intersting.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme Thu 29-Aug-13 22:14:29

Oh my god that's horrible. sad

Talkinpeace Thu 29-Aug-13 22:15:34

Please ignore clothes sizes. They are utter rubbish.
Modern size 12 is around a size 16 in 1970's sizes and much more from some shops.
Sainsburys size 8 is the size of Next size 10 and designer size 12
Today in John Lewis DD tried on two school skirts that were labelled as the same waistband and there was a 3 inch difference.

The ONLY way to find out your true size is with a tape measure and scales.
If they say you are overweight, chances are that you are. Sorry.

MajesticWhine Thu 29-Aug-13 22:20:55

That is depressing. Looks like losing 7lbs wouldn't really improve matters much, so perhaps I shouldn't bother.

EeyoreIsh Thu 29-Aug-13 22:25:48

It doesn't show an accurate representation for me at all!

gaggiagirl Thu 29-Aug-13 22:26:39

Good heavens! My bmi is 24 and I am a fucking whale angry.

I shall also not bother losing owt because it will make no difference to my chubby chubster self.

(storms out)

Talkinpeace Thu 29-Aug-13 22:29:53

Losing 7lb and toning up WILL make a difference. But why 7lb out of interest?

What about the pictures on Cockeyed - can you see "you" there?

You do not look like a whale, you are just lacking muscle tone - get fit as it will make you feel better.

TrucksAndDinosaurs Thu 29-Aug-13 22:44:43

Oh dear I didn't mean it to be depressing.
But when I move the slider down to the thin size I'd like to be its underweight - it just shows how our ideas of 'slender' are very low body fat indeed. Fine if you are a six foot long legged willowy model type, hard if you have a bum and boobs and shoulders and hips and come from sturdy peasant stock like me!

Zoe900 Thu 29-Aug-13 22:47:49

I don't believe that! I entered in my weight and height and it said 23.4 which I agree with. I work out a lot though, and the body was very porky looking. Way porkier than I feel (and I know I'm not thin!)

Zoe900 Thu 29-Aug-13 22:49:25

unless maybe I have the opposite of anorexia where I think i'm healthy and if not thin then fairly slim. that image was very rounded around the tummy and I'm not, so ignore I say grin

Blatherskite Thu 29-Aug-13 22:53:41

I thought I currently looked OK until I looked at that!

Cantdothisagain Fri 30-Aug-13 06:50:07

I find that both interesting and scary. My BMI is 19.1 but the figure on there looks huge. Even the medically underweight ones do. Is this my distorted perception of what slim should look like?

itsonlysubterfuge Fri 30-Aug-13 07:02:47

I thought it was fairly accurate for me. I have fatter thighs, a thinner waist, and bigger breasts, but overall the general apperance is about how "big" I am. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Thank you for posting Trucks

jimijack Fri 30-Aug-13 07:07:07

Bloody hell I'm enormous and obese.

I've lost 18Lbs in the last 5 months of baby weight, according to that I've got another 50Lbs to go until I'm healthy. I had intended to get another 18 to get to 9.7 stone.
that's so depressing and unachievable.

Yuck I don't like that at all.

Gracie990 Fri 30-Aug-13 07:22:03

My bmi is 21. I'm quite fit and toned so I think these things are a bit skewed. It does look quite like me though. I would like to be a bit more toned and to look like bmi 19.

I think the thin looks thin though can't do this

NickyNackyNooNoo Fri 30-Aug-13 07:23:51

It's was interesting, the body shape shown on the doodaa is similar to my actual shape.

I've worked really hard to become a 'normal' weight, and that's the problem it doesn't allow for muscle tone ignoring my wayward tummy which will not tone grrrr

Clothes sizing is bonkers and a complete joke, I'm a 10/12 but I'm unable to wear any buttoned tops as they always strain at the seams and my boobs aren't that big! I'd need a 14/16 but then they'd be too big on the arms etc

Gracie990 Fri 30-Aug-13 07:30:38

I did my DH and he's mega fit and toned and it looked nothing like him <scratches head>
It needs measurements as he's got a 44 inch chest.

WaitingForMe Fri 30-Aug-13 07:38:13

Hmm, looks like I need to lose a stone more than I think. Still, very very helpful.

Capitola Fri 30-Aug-13 07:53:15

That's really interesting, but depressing.

BMI 21.9 and really lardy looking according to that.

InMySpareTime Fri 30-Aug-13 07:55:08

Mine looks nothing like me, it doesn't take curves into account, or muscle mass.
I have a BMI of 24, 5ft tall and 8st 10, but am a size 6 in most shops, with a 25" waist. I do not need to lose any more weight, if I did I'd look (and likely feel) ill. That link made me out to be a right tubster!hmm

beachavendrea Fri 30-Aug-13 08:01:41

I love this! And hate it. I gave birth 8 weeks ago and the overweight me looks very like me, like a naked matt Lucas!
I think I have the same body shape as the model. Although I don't like my current shape I like it way more than the underweight version of me.

CatAmongThePigeons Fri 30-Aug-13 08:02:38

Mine didnt look too bad, but it wasnt my shape at all- no boobs or waist and no lardy arse and tree trunk thighs. BMI 23.8. I cant get the slider to work on my phone properly, it will not show anything below 23.5
