Does morning after pill affect cycle?

Hi all

Took morning after pill last month, pretty much on the day of ovulation. Got my period like normal, although I spotted for a couple of days before the floodgates truly opens (that's not completely abnormal for me though). Now well over a month later into my next cycle and my period is almost a week late. I'm wondering if that morning after pill could have messed up my cycle a bit? Just a bit weird because obviously my previous period came on like normal and wasn't seemingly affected by the morning after pill. I've taken a couple of pregnancy tests and they've said negative so I'm not sure what's going on. Anyone else experienced something similar before?

Hi,
I know this is a bit late. But had to reply. I took the MAP in April and since then my bleeds have been next to none, regular each month but lasting only about 1/2 days very light.
I was convinced I was pregnant as with the light bleeds and feeling absolutely awful in general. I have taken so many pregnancy tests, all negative, but I doubt them. It's awful.
Any updates from you?

Hiya, yeah my period came on a week late but since then my period has been regular! Stupidly had to take the morning after pill this month as well, we just were really in the moment and didn't worry about the condom. Checked my flo app almost instantly afterwards and it was my ovulation date! 😳

Have you been to your GP? They could do a pregnancy test so you are more sure. I don't think the MAP should disrupt your periods that much

Jesus @snackmonster you'd want to sort out your contraception pronto.

Just 'in the moment' & not looking after contraception is ridiculously immature.

Wow! I'm sure I'm not the only person who has forgotten the condom in the heat of the moment 😂 and with a long term partner no less! Also - whilst we would rather not have a baby right now, hence the MAP - it certainly wouldn't be the end of the world if it happened by accident. I'd love to have a baby in the next year or two. What are you gaining from judging me and using unkind words? I have made my own choice of contraception and it really isn't your place to condemn me with so little knowledge of my body or life.

Yes. It really messed with my cycle.
I sent my DH for the snip. I could t be doing with the hassle.

We’ve finished our family a while ago.
Youngest was 14 at the time.

@snackmonster

I wasn't condemning, just responding to this:

You now say it wouldn't have been a big issue & you hope to have a baby in a year or so anyway. You didn't say that initially.

You say yourself 'stupidly' and I agree - it is stupid to be having unprotected sex if you don't want a baby. It's Contraception 101, really 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was initally asking advice on whether the MAP affects your cycle, and then later on I was offering some support to someone else! To call me ridiculously immature with so little knowledge of the situation is just plain rude. There's nothing wrong with taking the MAP and shame on you for condemning me for it.

@snackmonster
I'm sorry for my delayed reply, I hadn't send your update until now.
I'm also sorry you are receiving judgment from others, if they don't agree with your post then there should be no need to comment.
I certainly didn't want to take the MAP either but unfortunately contraception isn't always 100%, if only it was ay!
My periods are still only lasting a day/ day and a half. It's really worrying me, but I also think it may be due to coming off the pill in January (I stopped this due to weight gain but used condoms/ but one split hence the MAP)
I contacted my GP a few months ago as I was convinced I was pregnant and I still go as I'm super paranoid. They said if I didn't have a positive test I would not be pregnant which I guess makes sense but then you hear of people who don't have a positive test at all. I know how paranoid I'm sounding here btw haha! I had a blood test (not for pregnancy but I had inflammation) and under active thyroid was shown which I'm taking meds for. I'm still bloated and cramping so still take pregnancy tests- always negative. (I'd be 15 weeks by now if I was so hope to god they are accurate and it's all just in my head)
Did you end up doing a pregnancy test? How do you feel now?
Also don't worry about judgemental people, surely the point of these forums is for support :)
