Your contraception experiences (how you got on with different methods)

I'm due to go back on to contraception soon after having a baby.
I don't really want to go back on the pill, as I have doubts about what it has done to my health (used to have a normal 26 day cycle, after years on the pill I now have a 45-ish day cycle, endometriosis, awful painful periods which are made worse by taking the pill).

I'm not sure about other methods as I only ever hear horror stories so wanted to know if you could share your experiences, please (the good and the bad).

I had the implant (Nexplanon) put in a few months ago and it has been great. The site was uncomfortable/bruised for a couple of weeks, but it has completely stopped my periods, and aside from the occasional day where I feel a bit weepy, I've had no side effects at all. I am old (44), am in a new-ish relationship, don't want any more children, and just want something to take me into menopause, for information.

I've only ever been on the combined pill and never had any problems so I can't comment personally. But I know other people who have the implant and swear by it.

I had the implant too and it did not work at all for me. It gave me periods that lasted for 3 to 4 weeks, I would have a couple of period free weeks and then it would start all over again. I kept thinking I just needed to be patient and let me body get used to it but after a year I'd absolutely had enough. Have been back on the pill for the last 4 years and I can't complain, haven't noticed any side effects and I now know to the day when I'm due on my period- which now lasts 5 days exactly, much more manageable! It's just trial and error unfortunately to find what contraception will work best for you.
