How do you know when to start TTC

Hi all

I'm new to mumsnetas. I joined to look for help and to ask for some advice.

I have been with my partner for 12 years, married 3. We have always planned to have children in the future, however it never felt like the right time. Recently I have been feeling broody and feel like now is the right time to start TTC. Although I'm worried that this is only because I am 30 this year and am anxious that I have left it too late (my parents had trouble conceiving).

My dilemma is that I have been planning holidays with friends which I don't think I would be able to go on if I fell pregnant, however waiting until after would mean postponing TTC for another year. I have talked to my husband about this and he thinks I should go on holiday and we could start trying then. However he also said that he does mind either way about starting a family which makes me feel like I will be responsible for the decision rather than doing it as a team.

I'm sorry for going on about this. I just feel I need somewhere to voice my feelings and straighten out my thoughts. Any observations or advice would be really helpful. Or anyone else trying to decide if they are ready to start a family.

There will always something that gives you a reason to not be pregnant. You don't know how long it might take.
Is the holiday one you could enjoy whilst pregnant?

Had another chat with DH, and am lucky to have someone so supportive. He is happy to start TTC now or in a year. Which just means I have to decide what want more.

The holiday is to Austrailia, so a very long travel time to be pregnant. Also a lot of money to lose if for any reason I was unable to travel.

Depends how important the holiday is to you? If it's something you really really want to do then go on the holiday and start TTC when you get back. When are you planning the holiday for?

Update for anyone interested ...

We have stopped using precautions so are essentially TTC and are both pretty excited about it 🤗 Haven't ruled out the trip to Australia in Jan as I'm expecting getting pregnant to take a while and don't want to put life on hold and put more pressure on ourselves.
