Acne prone and migraines... options?

Hi

I’m new here and this is my first post, so hi!

Hoping someone can give some advice or help.

As a child I had bad skin that was made worse when I was about 20. I tried every antibiotic under the sun and eventually had to go onto roaccutane which luckily cleared it and it’s not come back since. I don’t know what caused it but I had previously taken cerazette for a brief period which I heard can contribute to acne.

I get migraines so do not have the fortune of going on a full pill.

Mini pill wise (as I have mentioned) I have tried a Cerazette which I had not great side affects with, and Micronor which was the best pill I’ve ever tried but it was discontinued in 2017.

I’ve been given the option of Noriday but everything I read says it causes acne. My skin was so bad and caused me such bad depression that I don’t want to risk it coming back.

I went on the copper coil which was fine but my periods were 2 weeks long and super heavy which became unmanageable and embaressing. I am considering other coils but would like experiences in relation to acne.

I’m essentially asking for any opinions or experiences good or bad in any of the above (Noriday or other available mini pills, other coils like the Mirena or Jaydess, or any other option I may have missed) - to help me make a decision.

I know this is a seemingly impossible task but I am sure I can’t be the only one out there who has acne and migraines.

Any suggestions or opinions welcomed.

If you’re just looking for acne control (rather than contraception) I can recommend spironalactone. Prescribed by dermatologist or gp (I’m not in uk though) it’s a diuretic (though does not have that effect in the low dose needed I take 50mg per day but have also had success in 25mg). I’m not a medic but my understanding is that it blocks the way the hormones affect your skin, rather than changing the hormones you produce - so it’s safe for migraine sufferers (which I also am).
Hope that helps. Adult acne is no fun.

Sorry think I may have missed point. I tried the mirena but had it out after two years of misery- mood swings, tiredness etc. I’ve read lots of stuff that say mirena can’t have those effects but it did for me. Much happier on the spiro.

Hey sorry I wasn’t clear. It was contraception I was looking for that doesn’t flare up my acne!
It’s such a minefield :( did the Mirena make your skin worse?

I just realised it was on the family planning board so I should have realised it was contraception you were after. No I don’t think the mirena affected my acne one way or the other.
Hope that helps!
