Hi im on the copper coil and have had it for about 4 months. Every month about a week after my period(which is fine ...no heavier and not painful) I get pains that last about a week. It starts with the feeling of pressure to wee more and if I dont go I feel a real pressure and tenderness its worse when I get up in the morning and my bladder is full. To the point its painful to stand properly until I take paracetamol. I get a pain like scratching or stabbing inside me that goes on for tge week and become very bloated. After a week it stops..does anyone else experience this every month please?and experience it eventually settles down? Thanks

Hi
I had my copper coil removed yesterday after giving it 11 months. I had your symptoms too. For me it was pain when ovulating. When I wasn't with coil I used to get odd twang but nothing serious. Secondly I reckon at certain points of the month the strings were jabbing into me when cervix was low before period. The reason I had it out was for torrential bleeding, so much so that it made me anaemic. I reckon the whole area where coil was might have been swollen/irritated as one day after it being out, my stomach is visibly smaller. I don't think there has been enough research on copper toxicity as it is not listed as a possible side effect. Get it out if it is disrupting your life, don't keep getting told to try it a bit longer. I basically didn't leave the clinic until they agreed to remove it! I know it works for many.

Hi whatiloved
Yes dreadful pain when ovulating for me but I dont get heavy periods so not sure what t do as im mid 40s and not many other options left!! They would remove it but I have.no back.up plan!;) I did think possibly getting swollen and irritated from it.

I've had the copper coil for 10 years with no problems. But if you can pinpoint problems to when you had the coil, then have it removed. Don't suffer! What about implant or injections? I think I'm about to try the merina but still undecided.

Both of them are.no good for me as had them.before and get bad acne and break through bleeds unfortunately. Week.an.half after last bleed and like clockwork the tenderness is starting again so def a mid cycle problem for sure.
