Copper coil

I'm 10 days post partum and considering contraceptives. The copper coil probably sounds like the best option as it doesn't sound like it messes with your hormones too much.

Is it put in during your period? I'm still post partum bleeding and I've read it can be used anytime after having a baby and on other sites it's to be put in on your period... Which one is it? I have pcos so a period for me isn't overly likely :(

I had mine put in about 12 weeks postnatal, wasn't on period at the time. I can't quite remember but I think they will put them in after 6 weeks?

Loved my copper coil, had it for almost 5 years, heavier periods for the first 3 months or so but nothing terrible. Had it removed in August and conceived a week later! Will definitely get another one once this baby's out Smile

I'm sure I'm a rare case but I've had 2 copper coils fail. The first resulting in my daughter who is now ten and the second embedded in me and had to be removed. I've now been sterilised as definitely don't want anymore but I didn't trust the coil for a 3rd time.

Doesn’t have to be on your period. Mine wasn’t

Usually but not always it is put in during your period or soon afterwards.
After a baby it will be put in at about 6 weeks or later.
Lots of people use them for family spacing. They are very effective but like all methods there is a failure rate. Make an appointment with s doctor or nurse who fits them ( at your GP's or other family planning provider) to discuss pros and cons and process for organising fitting.
