Hi. I am in a long-distance relationship and my partner and I see each other once every 2 months so use condoms. We plan on going on holiday together for 3 weeks in May which would be great but we would like to use something other than condoms. We are both tested but don't want a pregnancy (I have a 6 year old from a previous relationship). I haven't been on the pill for years (used it briefly in my previous relationship more than 12 years ago and hated it so stopped it after few months and my husband and I used the withdrawal method until I fell pregnant). I am thinking of going on the pill again but the thought of having my cycles messed up really annoys me. Since my pregnancy my cycles have been regular like a clock and I could even tell when I am ovulating etc but that would all change with the pill plus all the side effects that come with it. My question is are there any other contraception methods we can use? I thought about the injection but read that it can have horrendous side effects but all the reviews I read were 10 years old. Has there been any improvement since? Is there a pill that I can take for a short term only? sorry if my questions sound silly I haven't read about this stuff for years and years so my info is very outdated. Could we maybe use a combination of withdrawing and condoms since my cycles are very regular or is that too risky? Thanks in advance for your help.

One option to look at is the nuva ring.

Hormonal, but low dose.

Natural Cycles (which was mentioned in the conception thread a few months ago) has just been approved with the CE mark as an effective contraceptive: blog.naturalcycles.com/contraception-officially-approved/?utm_term=0_31b3ada694-6c26dbe22f-244324425&mc_cid=6c26dbe22f&mc_eid=49b30f5061 might be worth investigating?

I came off the pill in April and started using it in connection with condoms. I would never go back in hormonal contraception ( even so-called low dose versions).
