My coil has vanished!

I went to have my coil removed & replaced earlier today but it's gone awol! The doctor couldn't find the strings & thinks that it has disappeared into my cervix!!!! Got to wait for a hospital app to have a ultrasound to try & track it down.
Anybody have a similar experience? Did they find it at the hospital?

Hi my strings disappear and reappear at different times in my cycle, it's really common for the strings to curl up into your cervix, if the coil is still in place (which it probably is) they can use a little tool to retreave them.

Thanks Rosie, maybe that's what happened, I'm sure it's still there just a bit concerned as to how they're going to get it out!

If the strings are in your cervix then they can use a little brush thing like when you have a smear to guide them out, if your GP or family planning clinic can't manage it then an experienced gyne will be able to do it but you may have to wait a while for a gyne appointment.

Happened to me. An ultrasound showed it was in the right place, but the strings had probably curled up. When it was time to remove it (a couple of years after the ultrasound) the gp couldn't do it but the dr at the family planning clinic managed with the help of forceps and ultrasound to guide.

Me too - unfinable at my last smear. I keep meaning to make an appointment at the sexual health clinic to try and find it.

Mine disappeared. Needed a general anaesthetic to remove it.

Mine disappeared too! I was menopausal so didn't need it replaced and the Drs said there was no need to do anything about it. Years later (10?) I had some light spotting and they removed it under a very light general anaesthetic as part of the investigations. Got the all clear.

I'm really hoping that I don't have to have a general hopefully the appointment will come through quickly & I can stop worrying!
