Vaginal thrush and Mirena coil

Hi, this is my first (very embarrassing) post!
I'm due to have a mirena coil fitted first thing Monday morning but I have mild thrush. Will this prevent the coil being fitted do you reckon? I'm really embarrassed and have waited ages for this appointment so don't want to turn up and be told that I'm wasting their time? Any reassurance would be appreciated :(

Hi Viola - please don't be embarrassed! It depends on how certain the doctor or nurse is that your symptoms really are from "thrush" (Candida) and not some other infection. What symptoms have you noticed? Vaginal thrush wouldn't be a reason to defer Mirena fitting, but if the symptoms could indicate a more serious infection (chlamydia or gonorrhoea for example), especially if there was any pelvic pain, a clinical decision might be made to defer the fitting. Do you know whether you've had a screen for chlamydia/gonorrhoea recently, and if so whether you've been at risk of a new sexually transmitted infection since that screen?

Thank you for your response! I was tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia about 2 weeks ago and my results were negative, so it shouldn't be any of those? I've just got very slight itchiness and I've had a bit of irregular looking discharge, more chalky than what I'm used to Blush I think I'm just going to bite the billet and take myself to the appointment and cross my fingers that my gp will be happy to fit me with the coil - I really appreciate your response, I'm feeling a little more positive about it now and as I'm going alone tomorrow, that's definitely saying something! Honestly, thank you.
