I've had my nexplanon for almost four weeks. I suffer regular headaches and I'm very careful regarding triggers (cheese, chocolate, coffee etc) but since having my nexplanon fitted I've had 3 really bad vision altering migraines that have taken nearly 3 days to recover from. Ive been prescribed amitriptyline 10mg as a prevention of migraine but was wondering could it be the implant? Anyone had something similar?

My eyes have been checked, blood pressure fine etc

I got the implant for the first time almost 3 years ago (just had it replaced so now on my second one). Prior to having it I never had migraines, though I did get bad headaches, but since having the implant I've been getting migraines at least once a week. They are photosensitive and triggered by bright sunlight.
I have been prescribed sumatriptan to take as and when I need it for the migraines, and I'm choosing to do that rather than have the implant removed as I had horrendous periods and cramps which have been stopped by the implant and I'd choose migraines over period pain.

My migraines knock me back. Sumatriptan don't seem to work for me Confused. I really want to keep the implant but my OH can't take time off and I've got two kids to consider Sad
I'm not sure what to do.

Luckily I only get the really bad migraines every couple of months, most of them are just an aura/pain on one side of my head that stops if I take my sumatriptan quickly enough.
Have you tried codeine for it? It can really help migraines for some people (though for me it makes them worse).
Or another contraceptive? Like the injection?

I've had the implant removed. Told them I was ttc3.
I will update if my headaches gets better.

I can't take codeine as I'm allergic to it Sad

Hi just curious to know if your migraines stopped once you had the implant removed? Ive had the implant for 4 weeks and have also been experiencing Migraines with Aura and also had a hemiplegic migraine which landed me in A&E for 9 hours and i'm still suffering the effects and constant auras almost 2 weeks later! I was prescribed Rizatriptan which doesn't do anything for me.

Hi, I found this thread searching for a similar problem and also wonder if having it removed did help? I can't be 100% sure if my increase in migraines is linked to my implant but I think it is and would like to know if anyone else has had relief by having it removed and if so, what did you move on to instead?
