DD is 6 months Grin how fast does time go! anyway, defo not planning DC2 anytime soon and I am really struggling finding a contraception method, I have tried pill and I forget it nearly everyday :( had the implant before DD and ended up getting it taken out due to moodiness and pain in the area, so since DD was born it has just been condoms and I have been quite happy with this BUT I do worry whenever my period is late and condoms are abit notorious for being unreliable...

so my question really is how effective are condoms, would I know if a condom had failed straight away and can anyone suggest a method that would maybe be better?

DH and I've always used condoms for 20 years but have just (today!) finally had a coil fitted. I really like condoms because when they fail you know about it and can get emergency contraception if you need it (obviously that is a big dose of hormones but it's a one off rather than all the time).

We have used condoms for over 12 years with no problems - just stopped each time we wanted to conceive, had a split once (didn't take MAP because we were going to TTC soon anyway). So, I guess about 11 years if you take away the time I was pregnant, with one split, not bad going really.

I am totally freaked out with the idea of hormonal contraception, and of having something inserted into my cervix. I know it's irrational but I can't get my head round the idea so condoms it is!

although im not a huge fan, dh and i have used condoms for 5 years for the reasons pp mentioned, with no issues and i got pregnant first cycle of ttc twice so clearly they were working pretty well!

Condoms are very effective as long as they're used correctly. I'm convinced they only have a reputation for failing a lot because people don't put them on correctly.
