How many mirena coils?

Hi I'm coming to the end of my second mirena coil and will be going to have a third fitted. Each mirena so far has stopped my periods which has been fab as I have endo. But is it good for the body to have no periods for such a length of time? Any info would be great thank you.

Also the strings are missing this time, will be painful when its removed this time?

Women often go decades without periods and are fine.

I just feel it might be a bit unnatural, even though im happy not to have them.

But putting synthetic hormones into the body is unnatural by nature.

You could always switch to a copper coil if you want contraception without synthetic hormones.

I'm on my third.........and never thought any more about it. The dr said anything either.

The progesterone thins out the lining and that is why there is no period. It is also 'thinning out' the endometriosis, so there is less bleeding/pain/build up of endometriosis which is good.

If it works, what is the problem?

I've just had mine out - strings were missing but v skilled nurse managed to grasp one and pull it out. The person who fitted it had snipped the strings too short.

If they can't find anything they send you for a scan.
They've never managed to locate mine doing a smear and I could never feel them when checking myself.

I had my first inserted in 1993 6 months after dd was born, and I've had them one after another ever since - I think in the early days they lasted 3 years, then up to 5 years. I seem to be OK - am using my last one as part of my HRT. And NO PERIODS! HOORAY!

Anyway, there is a school of thought that says we are not designed to have lots of periods: we used to start our periods at 17 or 18 and spend the next 20 years either pregnant or breastfeeding then not last long into or after menopause. So it's actually not 'natural' to have as many periods as we do nowadays, and the whole thing about a one-week break on the pill was because men thought women would feel insecure and missing out if they didn't have their period: there's no evidence it was at all necessary.

DD started on the pill at 13 for heavy irregular periods and her doctor left it up to her to choose whether to have a break or not, so mostly she doesn't.

I am about to removed mine been fitted 1 year ago no period for a while and one day start bleeding heavily with clots went to A&E they did a sacn and tols me I have fribroi so the coil is pushing inside need to removed it . I went to clinic dr could not removed string cut too short need to be refer at the hospital . I am just woried is it going to be painful .No more I notice some mood change .
