Hi newbie here.

Little background - 21, previously used mycrogynon (sp?), was great but then started getting headaches most days so tried a different combined pill, moody and low libido, tried mini pill, again low libido and random (inconveniant) spotting - I've given all of these a good while before changing

I currently have a mirena coil, had it around 6 months now, insertion I found a horrible experience - found it weird in a bad way to have it actually inserted and then after I'd left the gp surgery I nearly fainted and felt really dizzy for about an hour, had terrible period pains all day which paracetamol did not touch, now my libido is low, I have spotting a lot of the time and my general mood is not quite as good anymore.

I want to get the coil removed but not really sure about where to go contraception-wise after that?

(Sorry it's long)

Copper coil? No hormones

I have the copper coil. It's been fantastic for me. No hormones as said by pervious poster, so I am me again.

Insertion was a bit painful and I too felt wobbly for a few hours. But for me it was well worth it.

All I really know about the copper coil is that it often makes periods heavier and given that my periods before contraception were heavyish I don't really fancy it. Also the fact that it would be another insertion type contraceptive puts me off. Feel a bit like I've run out of options Confused

Do you have plans to TTC in the foreseeable future, or would a pg be disastrous?

The most reliable non-hormone, would probably be a copper coil.

If you are up to trying a something different (with hormones, but low dose and readily abandonable) there's nuavaring.

Or unfashionable, and slightly less reliable, the diaphragm (but you have to be happy with reaching up to insert properly).

No plans TTC as both me and dp still at uni, although a pregnancy wouldn't be a disaster, I'll have a look at nuavaring and the diaphragm, thanks for suggesting scaevola, does anyone have experience of withdrawal/ natural methods?

Withdrawal is risky - mistime it and you may as well have used nothing.

NFP can be more reliable, especially if you combine calendar (not adequate on its own) with temperature and mucus observation. And of course you need to have the restraint not to get carried away in abstinence times (or use a barrier method then). You need to learn the methods properly and observe conscientiously.

Hmm, would have to discuss with dp re NFP, just been looking at the NHS choices pages, anyone used patches?
