Depo Provera is turning me into a greedy fat beast. What can I do?

I started taking Depo Provera injections just before christmas, I was beyond useless at remembering to take the pill and every month would convince myself that i was pregnant.
Decided to try the Depo- liked the idea of only having to take it via injection every 3 months.
My appetite is beyond a joke, I'm eating like I don't know where my next meal is coming from- and I have put on weight all around my middle- i look about 7 months pregnant.
I don't want to go on the pill again, I'm reluctant to try the coil ( Im really pissed off at having to be a guinea pig for contraception as dp will not have vasectomy ). Part of me wants to be stubborn, and state that I'm not going to take anything- be hormone free- but worried that ill end up bloody pregnant.

Depo can cause prodigious appetite.

Have a think about the implant?

If you want to avoid hormones altogether maybe think about a copper coil?

I was told at the start of depo that it may make me think I am hungrier than I was really and to stick to normal portion sizes and drink more liquid if needed. After a couple of months it got better. Now on it again after DD though and seem to crave chocolate EVERY NIGHT, and I never used to have it in the house Hmm

My frank advice is come off it. The risks of losing bone density with the depo are huge. Which leads to osteoporosis. Have you been told to take calcium supplements? Been offered a bone density scan?

I used to be the biggest fan of the depo when I was on it, but it led me to having trouble conceiving, and bone density issues. It really is horrendous stuff. It's what they use to chemically castrate sex offenders.

If your GP didn't advise you of the risks, pllease read about them yourself and make an informed choice.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I'm going to 're-new' my next depo at the beginning of May.

Ill have a look at copper coil.

Today I have had a mcdonalds and two big bars of galaxy. Its like I have no self control. Its making me feel a bit depressed to be honest.
