Vasectomy Problems

Thought I'd post and see if anyone or their DH's had suffered any 'problems' post 'snip'.

There is nothing on the web other than a US yahoo user group that's not 'open' to folk to join, and seems to be more about selling reversals which I'm not going to do.

I'm a DH and had my op under local a few months ago. Operation didn't go too well, first half was pain free I thought "great this is OK, be done in a few minutes", second one was very painful as he zapped away, then the 'trainee' doctor severed a blood vessel.

Anyway, swelling, haematomas and a wound that wouldn't heal, etc etc. I'm still in considerable pain. Currently under Urology and have been seen, but told to go back in 3 months. I've even paid for an ultrasound to check my bits aren't dropping off after the GP's glib comment that if the blood supply was damaged, you'd lose it.

Unfortunately I do alot of sport, I cycle 20-30 miles every day, and have now returned to the gym (after letting things recover). As you can imagine, the cycling isn't helping and the bits are taking a battering despite all the cycle specific kit. I've even had to resort to runners underwear to hold things together when not doing sport.

The hospital has just said take ibuprofen before exercise to stop things swelling up.

My main question is has anyone had experience with long term pain and how long it took to resolve, what was done ? We wife is aware of a friend whose DH had a bad op and a number of months to recover.

Don't seem to be getting anywhere with either the GP or Urology. Treatment wise it's been 'oh I don't want to disturb anything as it might make it worse' where I think actually they don't have a clue about what to do.

My GP and Urologist have mentioned amitriptyline and gabapentin and I told them to get lost (been prescribed it before for nerve damage - which was eventually fixed but the drugs made me ill, so pain was actually preferrable).

We're both a bit fed up with it, still not had the 'all clear' but it's working well as a contraceptive though - i.e. I'm on the settee due to pain and can't sleep.

Anyone encountered this ? Thanks !
