Breakthrough bleeding with Cerazette

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has experienced prolonged bleeding on Cerazette and whether it is worth continuing with it?

I have been bleeding (not a great deal, but enough to need a liner) for over four weeks. I've just about had enough and am thinking of stopping the pill. Will the bleeding stop eventually, or will it just go on and on?

I've been taking it for about 3 months and am bf my 11 month old DS, so combined pill not an option.

Any experience / advice welcomed!

When I first went on Cerazette the doc said I might bleed for the first 6 months. So you might have a while yet! As it happens I didn't bleed, but then I never used to get periods on the combined pill either. I would check with the GP but mine definitely said it was possible to take 6 months to settle.

Thanks Panzee. Six months - oh dear, I don't think I can wait that long. This may be TMI but currently it is proving a VERY effective contraceptive as the bleeding is putting me off sex, and I don't want to abstain any longer!

Hi summerof76, i was gonna post with the same problem, ive been taking cerazette for 8 and a half months but had prolonged bleeding to start with, then i stopped bleeding for 2 months now i get odd days of it again. Been in agony with the bleeding lately, its not heavy but get cramps with it and a very tender stomach so im in the same situation as u. Does it get better eventually? Probably not! Im stuck as i cant take anything else so they suggest a coil which im not keen on. If i were u i wouldnt hold out any longer, give up now and dont wait like i have

Hi, every progesterone only contraceptive has made me bleed like anything, am also on cerazette (2nd pack now) and am dubious. I have been prescribed tranexamic acid to reduce the bleeding this time, have bleed for 7 days now and started the tranexamic acid 2 days ago to try to reduce it. Unfortunately the world seems to not want me to have contraceptive - I have been turned down for sterlization, mirena, implanon and copper coil made me bleed like something out of a horror film and I now cannot have oestrogen things as this year had my first ever migraine which initially they thought was a stroke. Unlucky ! Am determined to sort something out as I'm not great at giving birth either and there's no room at the inn!! Good luck and hope you get sorted soon x

p.s. - forgot to add that the injections made me fat and gave me a humungous period every 10 weeks! Other mini pill brands are, noriday, micronor, femulen, and norgeston. I don't think the long bleeds should be an acceptable part of any contraception choice and get annoyed at doctors who have told me to give it 6 months in the past. I finally have found a doctor who thinks this is unacceptable (male!) and is willing to sort it - I am giving this bleed 10 more days and will go back - not putting up with what I've put up with in the past. Sorry to rant and hope this helps.

My GP always looks at me as if to say why are you complaining about the endless and annoying bleeding, I dont think they understand unless theyve been through it themselves. Surely by now you would think they would have come up with a more stable solution for people who cant tolerate oestrogen!lv75, you are very lucky to have an understanding male GP!

I am lucky - it is a bit of a lucky dip who you end up seeing when you ring up though! So far no more bleeding since 2 days after my last post (which is wierd), but the thing with this sort of contraceptive you always end up expecting bleeding and being paranoid about it. If it carries on some of the websites seem to suggest other brands of pill might change it as they are all slightly different from each other. I had heard cerazette is similar in hormone to the implanon but I am feeling totally different and the last bleed I had was unexpectely like a normal period. See what happens next! I am still extremely doubtful how this one will go and will have to see how the pattern is until I have finished this box (another 6 weeks) and then decide whether to stay on it or not.
