Researching Family History, just found out my great grandfather died from Spanish Flu in 1918. Does this mean I am protected against SWINE FLU ?

very very good.
with a historical slant

pooka Mon 20-Jul-09 16:08:34

Oh yes, most definitely. wink

Though I wonder, if he DIED, then that might demonstrate a natural possibly inherited predisposition/weakness for the flu?

ButterbeerAndLemon Mon 20-Jul-09 16:20:31

Pooka is right; you're probably doomed.

TheCrackFox Mon 20-Jul-09 16:21:00

No, on balance, I would suggest that you have a genetic weakness regarding the flu. Have you thought about staying in the house until they have found a cure? wink

Grandhighpoohba Mon 20-Jul-09 17:26:49

Has your research also suggested that he married a close relative?

expatinscotland Mon 20-Jul-09 17:34:23

NO.

Good grief.

Millions of peoples' ancestors had it and survived.

My grandmother - Dad's mum - had it.

I still caught swine flu.

McDreamy Mon 20-Jul-09 17:37:52

Did he have any underlying medical problems?

BernardsCat Mon 20-Jul-09 19:02:46

LOLOL

Parmageddon Mon 20-Jul-09 19:05:10

My great-grandfather really did die of Spanish flu... We are more likely to have a weakness for this virus!!

McDreamy Mon 20-Jul-09 19:47:49

Parmageddon - who told you that?

Ledodgy Mon 20-Jul-09 19:48:39

grin

woodenchair Mon 20-Jul-09 19:56:02

Yes but only if your grandfather was conceived after he died

Parmageddon Mon 20-Jul-09 20:46:16

No one - I am joking! grinhmm although my g-grandfather was indeed a victim. Strangely my Mum only mentioned this today, apparently none of the rest of his immediately family inc my grandfather caught it at all.
