Birth certificate info

I found out today that my nans sister could have actually have been her mother.
My great aunt (who has dementia) said that her other sister had a baby at 19 which would tally with the year my nan was born.
Anyway how would I go about finding out the truth?
I've looked on ancestry websites and found a log of my nans birth but would her birth certificate have her mothers name on, she was born in 1928?
Does anyone know if the parents names were logged back in those days?

The birth certificate should record mothers name and occupation, and fathers name and occupation. However I've had birth certs back which just say "not known" under father.

Good luck with the search.

Thanks for replying rue.

It's possible though that the baby would have been registered as the person who brought her up being her mum, rather than her actual birth mother.
