Tring Park Waiting List 2019

Hi there, my DD auditioned for year 10 (2019) Performance Foundation at Tring Park and has received a letter advising she is on the wait list due to pressue of pupil numbers. They hope a place comes up and will write again by end of march.
I am not asking for a crystal ball but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this and if there is much movement on the lists etc.
I know DD will see it as a no.
Thanks for any advice/input.

I don’t know about Tring in particular but for dance at the other schools in the ‘big 4’ there is always loads of movement as children choose between multiple offers. Well done on the wait list, great achievement.

There is always a lot of movement on the list at Tring, as a number of people will have been offered a place and be unable to take it up due to a lack of funding.

Are you able to self-fund the place if one is offered?

As already said lots of movement between top 4 so don't give up hope.

Personally know of someone turning down a year 9 place due to lack of funding...

There is usually lots of movement, especially for a course like Performance Foundation where MDS awards are not available and there a few school scholarships. Many will have applied in the hope of a rare scholarship and if offered an unfunded place will have to turn the place down.

My daughter's school tends to offer about twice as many places as they have available knowing there will be some who will either have multiple offers or be unable to take up the place without funding.

The only problem specific to Tring from what I have heard is that they have in recent years had a lack of boarding places.

Thankyou for all the input.
Comefromaway you are spot on with the boarding issue...it was even mentioned at the audition greeting; they hinted that it generally works out in the end but how depressing that would be to get a place and then no bed !
They will be opening a new block in sept 2019 but i think this is aimed at 6th form.
We do hope to fund but it certainly won't be plain sailing.
Its a shame of all the things that were talked about on the audition day, the WL scenario wasn't one of them!
One thing it makes you realise is that there is clearly a lack of provision for this type of education !

Have you considered Hammond at all. It’s either Dance, Drama or Music but both the dance & drama courses contain a decent amount of singing & you can top up on the dance course with 1:1 singing and/or LAMDA. Dancers can also opt for GCSE drama and there is a twilight session usually too.

The reason I mention this is that they have been known to be very generous with scholarships in the past.

We looked at Arts Ed too but it wasn’t affordable.

I did look into Hammond but at 6th form it is very limited with A levels and they only take 2 whereas at Tring they can (and do successfully) take 3. Plus to be honest she has done summer school at Tring twice and adores it, has made friends there (some of whom are now there) and she has dreamt of going for about 5 years! We have been trying to hold on to her :)
I think if the WL doesn't turn anything up she will probably try again at 6th form as well as Hurtwood House which we have already visited for her brother. A great vibe there.

Following the thread, and hoping WL pans out in your DDs favour. Our DD is coming to the end of sixth form and is having an amazing time there having joined in L6.

Whe as my daughter was all set to apply to Tring 6th form, did Summer School and hated it.

Just shows how different they all are.

Do Tring guarantee acceptance into 6th Form for Lower school students. At Hammond everyone had to audition again with external candidates.

No, they don't, I believe they operate in the same way other schools do.

Hi eml3, no news here yet no ! Did your letter say end of march too?
So frustrating for everyone!
Which entry year are you after?
Congrats for getting this far though :)

Hi Dockardoodah,
We were hoping for Performance Foundation Year 10 boarding as well. The letter said they should know more by the end of March but would be in contact immediately if a place became available. I don't know if which year groups will be using the new boarding accommodation has been announced or if that will have any impact. I'm starting to lose any hope now I think. Congrats as well, it's a tough journey isn't it.

There’s a link below explaining the new building will create 70 new boarding places, but I believe that the plan is to move all sixth form boarding on site. Currently some of the upper sixth are housed in 2 additional boarding houses in Tring.
Good luck to you both, I hope you hear soon.

School breaks up for Easter on Friday so I assume any students not returning in September would need to advise the school this week. Hopefully this will result in some movement in the wait lists. It might be worth an ask? Plus it shows you're still keen in a place - as recommended on other MN threads!

My daughter has also been placed on a waiting list for year 9, has anyone heard anything from Tring, it’s been a really long wait!

Report
Dockardoodah · 04/04/2019 13:30

Hi Talimum, just more waiting I’m afraid!
I did read on another dance forum that there is a lot of movement at the moment with award offers and choices between schools. I would guess that this all needs to shake out before we hear anything. Sigh!

Today is the first day back after the Easter holidays at Tring so maybe give them a call to see if there are any updates? Are you holding other private school places where deposits or fees in lieu are required?

I've know children be offered places at other schools as late as August from the waiting list.
