Is there such thing as a decent quality E string that doesn’t sound tinny?

Dd plays on Dominants but the E sounds tinny and far too bright. Suggestions? I think the other three are fine.

My daughter used Dominant + Pirastro for the E string

Yes try Pirastro for the E. Dominant
E’s can often sound a bit too “glittery” ime!

I just put an Oliv E on DS2’s violin (because I happened to have one lying around). It sounds definitely better than the dominant, although maybe not my top choice for a 3/4 violin with a tendency to being too bright. DS2 complains it is not as projecting, which is probably a good thing in his case. However, I may try evahs or obligato as they are a bit warmer. Have a look at these YouTube videos and prepare to spend a lot of money on new strings...

I bought an Evah.

Her strings need replacing every three months (she plays a lot). She also needs a new bow and she’s getting through shoulder rests at a rate of knots (every time she grows what she uses stops being comfortable. Currently using Wolf).

I’m permanently broke!

Good choice! Sweaty fingers DS2 needs constant new strings too.

Are you going to upgrade the others? Or are Dominants okay for now? I can’t seem to get an answer on google about whether you can have pirastro strings with adjusters. I use pirastro myself (Eudoxa) but have always tuned with the pegs. DS2 would struggle without adjusters.

See dd used to use Kun but had a massive growth spurt, moved up to a 4/4, then could not, for love nor money, get on with a Kun. Bizarre.

The Dominants on the other three seem fine; it’s just the E that sounds tinny.

It's used to be all Dominants then changed to all Evah Pirazzi (only E was Gold). Now Dominants for G, D, A and Eva Pirazzi E steel. Viva La Musica Augustin Diamond for shoulder rest. Used to be Kun.
