NYMT-2019

Just booked DD(14)'s audition, her first year. Very nervous for her and there are three months to go.
She has done well as the big fish in a small pond and had really good NODA reports, comments on Lamda exams and in local competitions. Now it is time for her to put herself out there in the big wide world.
We know the odds are against her and we talk about the experience being good.

Good luck to her Lonecat. DS is 13 and has had 3 glorious years of NYMT. Highly recommended. Do let us know how she gets on. When is she auditioning?

DS is going a couple of weeks later. The audition itself is a very enjoyable day and a chance to meet some if the creatives and gauge the standard. I hope she enjoys it and of course that she gets good news! There have been NYMT threads on here in previous years which were very supportive. Anybody else want to join us this year?

Does anyone have experience of Musician auditions for NYMT? Trying to find out a bit more so DD can decide if she wants to audition; there is not very much information on the website.

If you would like more info about how it works for musicians, Hapsburg, I would email the address on the website. They really are super friendly and won't mind being asked questions! As far as I know you audition and if successful get matched to a show. The band don't rehearse at Easter (so the course fee is cheaper) but they do the summer residential and are very much a part of the company. Hope that helps, but if you need more info use the enquiries@ email address. They will be happy to answer any questions, I'm sure.

@Biscuitsneeded she is very much looking forward to it, she has become a bit of a big fish in the small pond and needs to spread her wings.
She is already working on her song choice with her singing teacher and she is currently rehearsing Legally Blonde in which she is playing Elle so dancing and stamina are all good.
We are also looking at performing arts colleges for sixth form at this point so my taxi duties are full on.

@Lonecatwithkitten your DD sounds like just the kind of person who should be auditioning! Really good luck to her - please let us know how it goes.

@Biscuitsneeded it seems to have gone really well from the info DD got Parade is going to most.y be an older cast, Anything Goes is going to be 'buggy maloned' so best fit parts regardless of age, but tap ability seems to be key they asked everyone their tap experience. Growl is a mixed cast and the new show legends is for acting age 13-15 with pop style.
DD felt her singing went well she sang 'Safer' from first date and the long term musical director remarked that that is the first time they had ever heard that. She felt she was some where in the middle for Dance which was modern/contemporary, but she does have grade 3 tap. And acting impossible to tell.
Whatever happens she feels she did herself justice. They said they will only call back for a maximum of two shows this year, but everyone who is called back will be considered for legends as they don't yet have a first draft of the script so are not totally certain what they are casting. So just wait till the end of the week for the email.

I'm glad your DD felt it went well. Very interesting that Anything Goes is going to be done Bugsy style with mixed ages. Thinking about it, that could work brilliantly!
Thank you for the update and fingers crossed. I am sure you will hear well before Friday if past experience is anything to go by.

Just saw your DM! Yep - had to at Bristol yesterday. Feels weird referring to the one as “my ex-student” these days but he was there, hoping for Parade, along with his younger brother who is 16 and there for the first time. I went through songs with both of them on Friday and both sounded good. The old-hand is at LIPA now so it’ll probably be his last year. Neither can tap so Anything Goes is unlikely to be on the cards, but I guess the younger one would be keen to do Legends or Parade.

Hi lonecat-he’s 15-not sure wether he would have been in her group? I think it’s unlikely he’ll get into NYMT but he’s certainly going to try and do his best!
