ASA Rainbow Distance - swimming class

Hi,
Dd has been doing ASA swimming class stage 10 for quite a long time. We are not happy with the teacher at all for so many reasons, and there is no other class, and another teacher available on the day we want. So we're looking at the ideas of either giving up altogether at this stage (as she can swim well), or changing to another centre to finish the stage 10 there. For that reason we already cancelled the direct debit for the current centre. Whatever we decide to do, she won't be going to that place.

I could not get any reliable info and progress report about DD from the original teacher all these time and the teacher has been very uncommunicative and unreliable, the teacher has been off sick most of the time at the last minute, causing class cancellations or another person found at the last minute, attending the class instead temporarily, resulting in dd not following any structured teaching and structured assesment.
Anyway, now as we cancelled the direct debit, DD has been tested by a supply teacher for ASA Rainbow 400 meters and also 600 meters. She passed both and the centre emailed us to tell us this, after we cancelled the direct debit. Anyway it's too little progress report, too late.

My question is; I read in mumsnet, about bronze- silver - gold levels within stage 10. Could anyone tell me whether the Rainbow distance 400 and 600 are bronze level or more? If not what distances are bronze- silver and gold?
What else can DD learn on stage 10? I'm thinking it is probably not even worth trying to finish it at another centre, as DD is not going to swim at competitor level or choose swimming as a profession. She just wants to finish the class she started, that's all.

So, what would her level be, after ASA Rainbow 400 and 600 meters within stage 10? Do they mean much?
Also what's the difference between bronze, silver and gold levels within stage 10? Could anyone enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

Hi OP,

I don't personally know anything about it, but the information from this website suggests that the distance awards are a complement to the standard levels awards, and not actually related in anyway:

www.swimming.org/learntoswim/asa-awards-badges-certificates/asa-awards-for-older-chiildren/

Presumably if your DD does register somewhere else, she could at the very least complete some of those distance awards again, if only to get those certificates, that she should have been awarded by her previous Centre?

I can't help on the other stuff though, sorry!

Also, according to the distance on the levels pages, she will need to swim 1500m continuously to pass level 10. She should therefore be eligible for the Rainbow distance 1000m & 1500m too....

Thank you oxcat1 I do appreciate your reply.
I looked at the swimming organisation website which mentions 1500 meters in stage 10 to be the max. So I thought it might be the gold level, and 600 meters I was hoping to be bronze etc.

IT reads: If your child is working throughLearn to Swim Stages 1-7they can also work up to the Rainbow Distance 200 metres Award.Learners on Learn to Swim Stages 8-10can secure up to the Rainbow Distance 1,500 metres Award. Swimmers who have completed all stages can strive for 5,000m!

Also mentions other gradings for various distances for breast stroke, front crawl etc etc. Confusing.

By the way, before your reply came, i cheekily put this on chat as well. I confess to that and sorry for being cheeky .
Thank you again.
