Best way to learn piano myself

I’ve been gifted a keyboard. I know it’s not a piano but we’ve no room for one (and if we did I doubt we’d be gifted one!)
I’d love to learn to play. Could anyone suggest a book or YouTube videos etc? To save my poor family’s ears I’ll make sure to keep the headphones plugged in until I’m at semi-professional level Grin

There's lots of good beginner books out there. How about Piano Adventures Accelerated book 1? I have used the non-accelerated versions with DC and found them a very good start, but they would probably be a bit slow for an adult learner.

There's Alfred's adult beginner piano course as well - I reckon you could get started with that on your own.

Google Hoffman Academy piano lessons. They have a free basic plan so it can help start you off.

I taught myself and can now play a bit - prob about G2 standard. I was well over 50 when I started and wouldn't say I'd made fast progress but I really have loved it and that I can now play enough to give me great pleasure.

Began with two free tutorial books given away with the Guardian in about 2010! In the later stages it had Pam Wedgwood beginner pieces - she's a good one to try once you're familiar with the notes/reading music.

We had loads of early learning piano books around (my DDs both learned when small) and I also got quite a few from charity shops - Chester, John Thompson - Pauline Hall was by far my favourite of these.

I do also have Alfred, as mentioned above, and I like some of his pieces, but it's a rather different way of learning.

Just get a couple of easy books and PRACTISE. I got so absorbed I could easily "play" for an hour or more a day! Good luck! It will give you so much pleasure if you can get into it.

Hoffman academy have a series of short lessons on you tube. Very easy to follow.

I would get a method suitable for adult beginners and learn to read music as a starting point. There are instruments that don't really require you to read sheet music but piano isn't one of them.

You should consider getting some lessons too, once you have masters the basics. I restarted piano this summer having not played since I was a teen. I was making a surprising number of fairly basic mistakes, without realising it.
