Just to let you all know it starts this Friday with the Keyboard finalists.
Then the woodwind next time.

BBC4 7.30 pm.

If you have a budding young musician and you haven't seen the competition before, it can be very motivating for children and a must for older ones too, wanting to make music their career.

Wafflenose Tue 05-Apr-16 17:35:34

Ooh, thanks for that! I took my 10 year old to see the woodwind final live, and it was fab! We haven't got a TV, but will find out if it's available on catchup.

NewLife4Me Tue 05-Apr-16 18:34:45

I should imagine it will be.
BBC4 are usually good for this.
My dd has friends in 2 of the category finals, and her claim to fame is being in the background when they filmed at her school grin

Greenleave Tue 05-Apr-16 20:20:13

Oh thanks so much Newlife, will watch it with the little one!!!

Wafflenose Tue 05-Apr-16 21:36:47

DD and I were up in the circle, very near to where the presenters were being filmed, chatting between performances. So it's possible we'll be on TV too! The big cameras certainly did a few sweeps of the audience, but mainly downstairs.

NewLife4Me Tue 05-Apr-16 22:14:50

Haven't a clue what you look like so can't look out for you. grin
I bet it was amazing, Did your dd enjoy it and was she inspired?

Wafflenose Tue 05-Apr-16 22:24:09

Yes, we both loved it! The only slight down side was that it started at 7pm on a Monday night, two hours away from home! We got back at midnight and had to go to school and work the next day.

Fleurdelise Tue 05-Apr-16 22:28:33

Thank you for this I'll definitely watch it with minifleur.

Performances are always available on catch up and the complete versions are on the BBCYM website. The performances in the actual broadcast are sometimes edited to shorten the program.

Looking forward to it and will look out for you both Waffle!

We love seeing the bits where they film them at school etc; so interesting to see how they have got this far

Wafflenose Thu 07-Apr-16 21:35:20

Off to look on iplayer or wherever it's likely to be... was it Strings tonight? We went to the Woodwind one. Does anyone know when that one is being shown?

Wafflenose Thu 07-Apr-16 21:49:40

D'oh I thought it was Friday today, and it's Thursday! I also see from the OP that it's Keyboard... silly me!

Thanks Drummer and Newlife
Hopefully could got back from work early tomorrow so we could watch it together otherwise we will catch up over the weekend!

Wafflenose Thu 07-Apr-16 23:08:26

Thanks, drummersmum.

We will be watching them a day behind everyone else!

drummersmum Fri 08-Apr-16 17:16:02

May spot Goo next week as we've seen a photo of her.
As of NewLife 's DD, I can only guess. She will be the girl in the backdrop clearly visible due to emanating high levels of happiness radiance and glow star

Wafflenose Fri 08-Apr-16 19:40:16

I will be looking out for us too! I don't think we'll be in it TBH, as we were slightly late (well, just squeaked in on time actually) and the stewards weren't sure if there were still two seats next to each other downstairs, hence sticking us up in the circle. I didn't mind - we could see everything the adjudicators were doing (I'm nosy), had a great view of the performers and didn't have to sit behind someone taller! We were probably 3m away from some of the filming between items, but I imagine those shots would be close ups of Clemmie and Alison. So excited to watch it again... for me and Goo, there was a real stand-out performance, but it took the judges the best part of an hour to come to the same conclusion.

Fleurdelise Fri 08-Apr-16 21:28:18

DD found it so inspiring, kept asking questions about what is next for them, how long did they study for, you could almost see her brain

Oh and she decided the winner will win from the moment she saw him, she loved his playing, she said you could feel it.

NewLife4Me Fri 08-Apr-16 21:58:07

Yes, he was clearly the winner, there were a couple who clearly couldn't separate themselves from the music and you need to be able to do this at that level.
I thought the young one was brilliant for such a short time playing and think he's one to look out for in the future.
Dh thought his choice of music would enable him to transition to Jazz very easily and could hear it in his playing.
There was also one we all decided we wanted to punch, I know that sounds horrible, but meant in jest.
Dd jumped for joy when they announced the winner, it also dawned on her what a lucky girl she is. She is aiming for 2020 grin

Fleurdelise Fri 08-Apr-16 22:56:38

Good luck to your DD for when the time comes NewLife.

Was it Julian from St. Albans you found annoying? grin I know that sounds bad but he was arrogant and annoying, at least that is how we felt.

DD liked the first one and the winner, the 13 yo was also good but it felt like he wasn't there just yet. The were all amazing in their playing anyway. smile

NewLife4Me Sat 09-Apr-16 14:23:40

Yes, he's the one. He also gave H. ed a bad name too, which was really annoying.
The first one was at dd school until this year, I thought he was too wooden, very little expression but very good technically.
I felt sorry for him as third time, and last. He didn't reach the final like last time.
But good publicity and maybe some work from it, which could be the reason for him going for it again.

ha Ha, dd has some work to do before then, but she was up practising early this morning and hunting out some classical sonatas and concertos, much to dh amusement as she was convinced it was Jazz all the way for her. grin

NewLife4Me Sat 09-Apr-16 14:28:03

Tell your dd its back to normality, the classroom and GCSE's.
Two of the finalists were in a concert at school the following day, I know as they were same ensembles as dd.
You'd never have known the day they had before, if you didn't know, iyswim.
That's the joy of a specialist school, they are all the same and nobody is different.
Even the winner last time dd friend and hero was just doing normal stuff afterwards. grin

Wafflenose Sat 09-Apr-16 15:38:19

We have now caught up with everyone else! DH and I loved the 3rd player, and had him pegged as the winner, but I wondered if the jury would go for the older one who was having a third attempt. Goo watched it this afternoon, and liked those two as well.

I do think that the woodwind winner (and I won't spoil the surprise and say who it is) could go on to win the whole thing.
