Scout parents - what type of walking boots?

Since ds was a beaver, he has worked his way through the hi tec range of walking boots. But they aren't brilliantly waterproof. He has a night camp coming up, and his current boots won't keep him dry.

What types of boots do your dc use (also possibly size 5.5/6, which seems to be in a gray zone between child and adult sizes).

Thanks!

Leather boots are easier to wax and keep waterproof. Any with canvas bits tend to let the water in. Ask for advice at the outdoor shop.
remember if you take evidence of scout membership you get 10 % off at Millets and ? 20% of f at cotswold camping

We have had every boot imaginable - I tended to buy 2nd hand from ebay when I could as they grew out of them so quickly, I agree leather are better, if he is that size, then look at woman's boots, they will be a better fit. I'm a 6 so both mine briefly used my boots when they were that size - they are currently 14 and 13 and take an 11 and 10 respectively.......and are still growing!

You may be able to pick up a pair of 2nd hand berghaus, merrell or zamberlan etc - they are really good boots - anything with Goretex "should" be waterproof, but if the water goes over the top then nothing will keep their feet perfectly dry. I would say though that not all hi-tec boots are equal - we have had some cracking ones and some that have been a bit rubbish.

These Leather Hi tecs might be worth a bid on?

These have been used but look in fab condition and will be cracking boots:

Oooh thanks all. Was hesitating re leather given the amount of use they might get. Will investigate these links ...

Brasher boots are good, and not too heavy, but I don't know if they do small enough sizes:

Leather boots are heavy....

Buy ladies ones if he's in the inbetween sizes. Gortex definitely. I'd buy new for him and ebay after rather than buying off ebay myself...
